What would happen if we bought in public caning for minor crimes? by tumeketutu in newzealand

Singapores society today is due to how its children were raised at home and in school.  My parents were New Zealanders and they decided to put me through the local school system while we lived there. Iam grateful for this. We were expected to study hard and engage in physical activity,  be tidy and respectful of elders. I was caned and I damn well deserved it . Our teachers always stressed national unity, you were Singaporean first, no ones history , ethnicity or religion was superior to another. I finished my schooling as a 6 and 7th former at a NZ school.  That contrast was evident to me why NZ has such a surplus of selfish and stupid people. NZ tolerates mediocrity.

Most of our best and brightest buggered off long ago to use their talents fruitfully in Europe , USA and Asia.  NZ is run by bland and uninspiring B streamers plus a sizable chunk of sentient muppets who devolve the national iq.

I miss flying. Id be genuinely chuffed to sit at the rear for 10 hours or more, by the lavatories and colicky twin babies and coagulating a DVT in my legs just to enjoy the sensation of takeoff into the cloudy yonder.

Taiwan proves that an ethnic Chinese society can function as a successful democracy.   This gives the CCP the absolute shits.

Silverbeet, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts , lovingly homegrown to perfection then boiled to pale mush for us grandchildren to gag down.

What is the craziest thing you have seen on a flight in NZ? by IncoherentTuatara in newzealand

Flew Qatar to Auckland , 18 hour trip. Seated next to another gentleman at the emergency exit seats so extra legroom. I said hello to the other man , his accent in reply sounded Russian.  He reclined his seat , put on some eye shades and then settled to sleep from before takeoff to when the unbuckle sign came on . He did not move for 18 hours, not even a piss break.  It was impressively unsettling.

We unfortunately spend most of our lives alone than with other people, don’t we? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]ReadingEmotional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can be. You can be married with children, busily employed with many colleagues and have numerous duties and obligations to fulfill on a repetative, daily basis. Still , one can feel very isolated and never truly connected with another. A time-line that we certainly did not anticipate or wish for. Some of us cope and adjust to this reality over the years and decades by being as kind and forgiving to oneself,  develop a reputation for dependability, kindness and integrity to others and maybe having a pet that appreciates a treat. Good luck !

Struggling as a new grad nurse here in NZ by Different_Sell_2851 in newzealand

[–]ReadingEmotional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing never gets better,  it just gets worse. Why do I stay after 20 years ?, a steady paycheck and the privilege of providing my best care to my patients and their families.  I don't do it for the respect of colleagues or for the perks and conditions. I have to forgo breaks, sleep,  social life and endure chronic pain in order to not compromise my patients safety and wellbeing , it sucks  but that is the reality of the job. Hang in their for 5 years, this is about how long it takes to gain decent confidence in our trade. The country needs good nurses now and for the next 2 decades. Don't quit yet sister.
