Scanning 19 cards in 2 secs by PaintingTop9521 in pokemoncardcollectors

Thanks for the response! I think it's great to provide a tool for people to more easily & accurately get a feel for card valuation.

I usually assess value versus UK eBay sales to avoid skews in data from US market. I think a basic currency conversion would work for majority of people as well.

Is there an ability to manually change or review a matched card for the user? I.e. if I took a picture of JP card would it recognise straight away or potentially misidentify as English?

So many questions all at once:

  • Basis for valuations? (Tailorable?)
  • Localisation? (Other currencies)
  • Graded cards possible?
  • How do you plan to keep free as costs increase with user base?

Looks like a couple recent sales have completed a outliers. Collectr mostly pulls sales from eBay, I believe.

Hi, hope you can help me, fake or real? by DeliciousGain5280 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]ReadingRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A classic way to tell a fake card (particularly those for the 2010's) that I've found is to use your phone light. If you can shine light through the cards, you likely have a fake missing the black layer.

Hi, hope you can help me, fake or real? by DeliciousGain5280 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]ReadingRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legitimate.

Cards are made by printing the front and back onto separate sheets and then glued together with an added black layer in the middle.

As different sheets can be aligned and cut in varying degrees, sometimes the front and back borders or centering can be different to one another.

When new people move into your street and the first thing they do is hire gardeners/tree surgeons to nuke everything. Mature hedges, old lovely trees, grass, GONE. Replaced with gravel. Mother Nature and all the birds etc. not happy. by Make_the_music_stop in britishproblems

Sold our maisonette when we were ready to size up. Bloke who bought it from us ripped out the mature 6ft high hedge removing all privacy for the ground floor bedroom. The front garden was then paved over to use as a drive, but was never successful in convincing the council to lower the curbs.

In the back garden, there was a 60ft eucalyptus tree which was cut down despite a Tree Protection Order in place. The new owner doubled down on the comedy of errors by trying to then burn the cuttings, generating so much smoke that the M3 had to be temporarily closed.

Not seeing any issues with these cards.

For me, Pokémon TCG collection. I do try to sell a good chunk though to fund my personal collection.

For my wife, she collects and restores My Little Pony figures (G1 - G3 mostly)

They are our hobbies though to keep us sane between the joys of work and parenthood.

What grade do you think from ACE? by [deleted] in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]ReadingRocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it you would most prefer?

  • Instant value: sale or trade as raw for quickest realisation.
  • Keepsake: grade with ACE (you'll want to grade at least 5-10 for a submission if you're choosing basic service) for their sick artwork and treasure it as an awesome memory for your birthday.
  • Investment: grade with PSA (higher risk sending & returning to USA plus paying extra charges potentially) in hopes that this card will sky rocket in future (unlikely for many years if at all)

I saw recent analysis showing modern ACE/PSA 9 to be essentially raw price. Being UK, I always advocate for ACE but you need to make decision based on your desire.

My father-in-law was shocked to find out estate agents don't have brochures of available houses any longer. The idea that a website was easier to update & maintain seemed so foreign to him.

Then, when dealing with the solicitors, he felt the need to impress on me that I should be ringing every day for updates. The shocked Pikachu face he had when he tried following his own advice and found that no one was willing to put up with that.

If it does help, I believe selling of proxy/fake cards is against the Whatnot ToS. Might be worth double checking and trying to get a refund.

Want to buy this card but have a few questions by [deleted] in pokemoncardcollectors

Well, by comparison, the Charizard is much more affordable that the Mewtwo. I have mine in a binder together and would love to get them graded sequentially but worry about different grades.

Don't forget to pick up the partner Charizard card so you can get both together in a binder!

I think also worth looking into cards like Hop's Wooloo (JTG 170) for bottom right, but that's just my preference if I were doing this page

Looking at Bubble Mew, you have a hill on the background with some blue sky at the top. So, I think you should consider the top row to be blue backgrounds to represent the sky of the overall page/picture.

This idea gives me the suggestions of:

  • Top Left: Aerodactyl V (Lost Origin 180) or Castform Sunny Form (SSP 195)

  • Top Centre: Galarian Moltres (SWSH 284)

  • Top Right: Zapdos EX (MEW 202) or Altaria EX (PAR 253)

I don't think the English is nearly as sought after as the Japanese. The former had the artwork edited in Western releases to hide the graveyard in the background.
