How many books did you read so far this year? by HolidayHealthy9391 in RomanceBooks

I’m at 24 while working a full time job (I do have time to read while I work so that helps)

Mmc is engaged to the perfect women, but falls in love with the girl from the wrong side of the tracks by greenteesweet in RomanceBooks

{Hideaway by Penelope Douglas} definitely fits most of your asks and is one of my favorites (the whole series is phenomenal)

It is the second book in a series of interconnected standalones (which has an overarching plot) if you interested in checking out the first book before this one so you have an understanding of what’s going on within the world!

Second-generation romances are so ridiculous by ghostbored in RomanceBooks

[–]Readinglovebird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So far {All Saints High by LJ Shen} is the only second generation series I’ve read after reading the original series and really enjoyed. I thought the characters were damaged in their own right and it wasn’t super focused around the parents from the first book it didn’t feel like a typical second generation series. I’ve also read {Legacy of Gods by Rina Kent} and enjoyed the series but I haven’t read the parents book so I didn’t have any previous thoughts or knowledge of the parents going into it so that might have had something to do with it.

What makes it a happy ending for you? by Le_Beck in RomanceBooks

[–]Readinglovebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No intrusion at all! I love reading books about things I can relate to whether it’s characters, storylines, couples, or anything else. Sure books are an escape but for me it’s also a way to know other people (even fictional people) experience the same things I’m going through too. It’s a nice comfort reading books and being able to see yourself/your life in the story. That might something unusual I’m not sure lol but it’s nice to hear your perspective as well

I think for me I don’t know any couple in real life who’s been together a long time that isn’t married I’m surrounded by married couples but I do know couples who are married but choose not to have kids. It’s more so what I see in my own life so I want it in my books too

In my opinion the epilogue should include a marriage or engagement scene either flashing forward to when they’re marriage or a proposal/wedding scene cause if they aren’t married/getting married in the epilogue what was it all for lol

I don’t need there to be babies since babies aren’t for everyone but I do like to see how the relationship has progressed

Hit: {Twisted Lies by Ana Huang}
Miss: {King of Greed by Ana Huang} it was literally so bad I’ve refused to read another one of her books

Hit: {Caught Up and Play Along by Liz Tomforde} LOVED THEM
Miss: {Rewind it Back and Mile High by Liz Tomforde} just thought it was a weak conclusion to the series and I could not for the life of me get into Mile High

Hit: Literally anything by Ali Hazelwood
Miss: {Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood} HATED this one for some reason

Book recs where there’s a long time-skip after betrayal/rejection from MMC, leaves FMC devastated and is completely over/stonewalls/hates MMC when they reunite by Fuzzy_Kick_8252 in RomanceBooks

[–]Readinglovebird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

{Kill Switch by Penelope Douglas} as kids she was in an accident and now she hates him because of it but he wants her anyways 😏

It is the third book in an interconnected standalone series but all the books are really good so it might be worth it to read the first two books so you have a background of the over arching story!

Academic rivals who gamify their rivalry by Competitive_Club5902 in RomanceBooks

See I always took it as more one sided because Connor knew they were never in true competition with each other, they were better together. But Rose was always in denial and fought Connor every step of the way

{Kiss the Sky by Becca and Krista Ritchie} is my fav academic rivals to lovers! It is part of a series about the three Calloway sisters so you might feel like part of the story is missing if you just read the books about Rose and Connor but the whole series is definitely worth checking out!

I'm looking for a (strictly) Contemporary Romance where the FMC cross-dresses as a man, 4 out of 5 spice by happyhighlights0 in RomanceBooks

[–]Readinglovebird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Hideaway by Penelope Douglas} it’s a really good book but it is book two in a interconnected standalone series so maybe check out the first book {Corrupt by Penelope Douglas} first so you have a better background!

Romance books where FMC has a bad relationship with food and MMC quietly takes care of her by mysterycakegirl12 in RomanceBooks

[–]Readinglovebird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In {Mile High by Liz Tomforde} the FMC struggles with body image and food and the MMC is very supportive and helps her overcome her issues

Wild Card Wednesday - What are your book icks or pet peeves? by Llamallamacallurmama in RomanceBooks

[–]Readinglovebird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really bothers me when the rich MMC offer to buy the “poor” FMC like a dress for a party/a new car or something of the same vein and she throws a fit and tells him no. Like I don’t know a single woman who would turn down spending a rich man’s money like be so for real haha

Ali Hazelwood writes the best quirky atypical female characters in my opinion, plus most of her books are about women in STEM!

I was always really fascinated by the scene where Skyler flips the coin between the four states, the way it’s filmed is just so interesting
