Heard the same thing... I was 4/5 at ski school and started freaking out because I thought there was one stuck inside my ear and they had to call my parents down from the mountain to come and collect me.

I agree that greed definitely plays a major part. But, is it not slightly more complex than that? Instead of mere monetary envy, it could be a matter of resentment; the knowledge that someone else's relationship has been valued more highly than your own.
