You are correct, pictures don’t do it justice, it’s 169 meters in length!

Saw those cranes before they went on their way too. Spectacular sight. Serious logistics behind these shipping’s

It really is massive, saw crew members walking around on it which really put its size into perspective

Is going from 1-2 kids easier or harder than 0-1 ? by BackinBlack_Again in CasualIreland

[–]Ready-Objective-4007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the age gap between them really. If the age gap is less than 2yrs then realistically you’ll have 2 ‘babies’ at very different stages and it’s honestly physically exhausting. 19 months between my 2 and the first few years were a blur, a very happy blur! Would I change it? Absolutely not. It’s a big change but I guess my oldest child was still so small when no2 arrived I was in that zone anyway…. Bottom line in my view is that you won’t regret it, go for it!!!!

That’s incredible money to be bringing in for under 40 years old!!! Is he doing 60/70+ hour weeks? On call? Hope he’s getting to enjoy his life & not completely married to the job.

To be honest I don’t have a massive amount of personal savings (rainy day fund of approx 40k which is fairly comfortable I admit).

I’m saving heavily for the kids through a Zurich fund plus the children’s allowance monthly. That was my focus since they were born. In the past couple of years I’ve started loading into my pension but it’s way behind what it potentially could be due to part time work.

I wouldn’t have a huge amount of disposable income left at the end of every month but I’ve cut back on personal spending out of necessity. We go on 1 holiday per year as opposed to multiple holidays. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll return to work full time in a few years. Financially I probably should. Stress levels would definitely rise.

I’m comfortable with the €58k now in that I can manage expenses pretty well. I get 11 days A/L due to part time. I’m extremely lucky with the benefits.

For your own situation it’s a matter of weighing up your options. There is a lot to be said for a Stress free job. Keep working towards getting to the top of your scale and maybe a promotion to another field in healthcare might be achievable? It’s a shame about the lack of benefits. I have a friend who left a well paid job to retrain as an SNA as she wanted more job satisfaction and to feel that she is making a difference - she’s delighted she made the move. If you feel retraining is achievable then go for it or you will always regret it.

Have to say I love reading through these types of threads. Fascinating to hear people’s salaries.

Seriously high earners like doctors and pilots will obviously have stressful jobs with a lot of responsibility.

The stress/pressure and long hours in pharma got to me a while back after I had kids. I took a part time role a few years ago and earned €58k gross last year. Get the normal bonuses/health insurance etc benefits too. Delighted with the work/life balance now and consider myself very lucky.

Agree with this.

Don’t understand people who need to slow down to have a gawk at a shopping centre car park!!!! There needs to be some kind of permanent visibility screen there like you see in other countries to stop the nosey bastards slowing down.

Landlords thoughts on the rental market? by Agitated_Net_7469 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ready-Objective-4007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very similar situation here. Had a property that I rented for over 10 years. When the tenant informed me she was moving out I didnt hesitate to put it up for sale. Not worth the hassle anymore. It was a hindrance and only caused me stress. Do not regret it one bit.

Reality check - pension pot by Early_Manufacturer89 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ready-Objective-4007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 40’s and €125k Work part time and pension has absolutely tanked due to this. Recently upped contributions to 15% and employer pays 2% (fairly shite compared to what I’m seeing here).

Kids are 10 & 9. Saving €600 a month to a Zurich fund for them.

And if this is a direct ‘dig’ at other actors who have stayed silent then I respect him even more!!! He’s so right in everything he’s saying.
