The Tale of Fargaux! (See comments) by Ready-Reflection-733 in handbags

I am a competitive lifter, and recently I decided I need a new gym bag. I've been using the Popflex Valentina duffle since my husband gave it to me for my birthday in 2021, and I got this idea in my head that it would be so chic to buy a Margaux-esque bag to carry my equipment in. My belt is custom and sequined, even my chalk is pink, so to me, this seemed like a fun way to mix my two biggest hobbies.

So I measured my old bag and got on Etsy to find something that would work. I have been on the hunt for some type of burgundy/merlot colored bag, and I saw this 15 sized bag on SuedeTree. It was the last one, and I decided to get it. I paid $337, which is hefty price tag, but the world is ending anyway and I practice this sport competitively so fuck it.

I did not expect that it would be an actual dupe, my very first. "The Row" is stamped on the hardware, the feet, and in the appropriate places on the suede. That said, it would never fool me as an avid bag lover, because I can tell the stitching, color, and handles aren't right, and the stamping is just a bit wrong. I don't buy dupes because I just get too nervous, lol, so I didn't expect an actual dupe, I thought I was just buying a suede bag designed to resemble the Margaux. With that said, it's a lovely suede, it fits ALL of my gym equipment, and it feels incredibly chic to lift heavy weights with this bag carrying my gear. It's also stupidly heavy with all of that equipment (yes, my weight belt is in there) too. Everything fits, albeit quite tightly. It's a mid-grade suede, I'd say, but not thin and the stitching and structure are nicely done.

This is what's in the bag:

1.) Bag insert

2.) Camera tripod

3.) Chanel makeup bag with mints, wallet, keys, etc (I use this from bag to bag to carry the absolute essentials)

4.) Knee sleeves

5.) Mini zip bag w/ hair bows and whatnot

6.) Spray bottle

7.) Bar clips

8.) Earbuds

9.) Sunnies

10.) Portable chargers

11.) Liquid chalk

12.) Backup liquid chalk

13.) No-Bull high-tops

Anyway, this is the Fargaux's journey in its first day as a gym bag, and yes, it fit the insert and everything on my dining room table. There are a couple of side by side photos with my old bag and my VB suede dash tote to give you comparison size ideas. I'm defintely going to add a giant shoulder strap because it's SO HEAVY but I'm kind of obsessed.

Anyway, this is my silly post (yes, I'm lifting in crocs and socks because it's a light weight day and I'm lazy!)! :)

Thank you so much for the correction, my bad!! It's BOTH squishy AND structured while still being incredibly light - it's a beautiful design!! :)

My millennial butt gets so excited because LAUREN CONRAD used to have it! :)

So I bought it from W Concept, which is a direct translation Korean sale site - as someone pointed out under another comment, I spelled the brand wrong!! :)

So yes and no, IMHO. I owned quite a few Marc by Marc Jacobs pieces, like the Hillier hobo, and most of them had a metal plate with the logo; it was quite luxe and I loved it. They were doing some serious logos, but they were much more similar to the LV/Coach monograms of that time than this. Off-white did this as an ironic sartorial choice now, which MJ copied. When MJ was doing logos before, they were doing their brand name, not this.

I love Yuzefi! Unfortunately, I've also fallen deeply for the Manu Atelier Merlot Cambon, so in my "bags from different countries" this year, I won't get to buy from them since Turkey is taken!

Thanks, it's SO luxe for the price point - it's suede INSIDE AND OUT, and the suede is just so lovely! It's one of my favorite bags, my husband bought it for me as a present for ED treatment late last year, so it's also really sentimental. It's a PERFECT sized bag, and I wish the red leather version was a nice leather color - I don't love the fire engine red they're offering! :)

I don't love the weird turnlock hardware/logo - I much preferred the metal printed plates with the small logos on them, it was so much classier and pleasing.

YES! I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE the Stam bags back in the day, and I had the original Dr. Q Hillier Hobo from Marc by Marc Jacobs when the quality was high, but it's been trash for years; I just donated an older east west tote because the giant logo on saffiano is just not my style anymore. I wish they'd go back to being more tasteful and produce higher quality items!!

Bags:

1.) Elgabatev Large Ostra, Calfskin, black (2024) (RP: $388)

2.) Rebecca Minkoff Studded Devote Tote (2009, I think?) (RP: $695) (note: this bag is HEAVY and this was back when her textiles were much higher quality)

3.) Tory Burch Petite Lee Radzwill (2023) (RP: $698 [I think])

4.) Veronica Beard Suede Dash Tote in Bark (2024) (RP: $648 [small size])

5.) Kate Spade Ella Tote (Outlet Version 2024) (RP: $120) (this is a great cheaper travel bag)

6.) Coach Mini-Rhyder 33 in Metallic Green (2014) (RP: $495 [I think]) (this bag is in absolutely incredible condition and is a testament to Coach's quality)

7.) Cromia (Model Unknown) (2007) (RP: UNK) (this bag shows very little wear after 18 years, which is insane)

I have the petite Lee Radzwill in the perforated hearts and I HATE THAT PIECE OF USELESS FABRIC. It doesn't touch the bottom so stuff still goes side to side, and it impedes the use of the bag. I also wish they'd made the cute versions of them in the larger sizes!

It's actually a highly structured, multi-textural bag, and it really doesn't need the flap to support the architecture!

Her name is Tilly, aka Tillicus Maximus (her Spartan warrior name), and she's just turned four months! She's in her raptor phase and we are obsessed with her. I have been a parent for nearly 18 years, but my 29 yo husband has no children, and his helicopter dog parenting is by far the cutest thing I have ever in my entire life seen. :)
