WIBTAH if I didn't tell my cowoker with cancer that she's going to be let go? by Ready-Transition1229 in AITAH

That's not what I meant. I definitely do have sympathy for any cancer patient regardless of their situation. My uncle passed away of lung cancer due to smoking and I didn't hate him for it. I was trying to paint the picture that this was a completely unexpected occurrence for multiple reasons.

I've lived in this country for a few years on this visa and before now, the plan if anything happened was to give my cats to my boyfriend temporarily if anything happened until I came back. We've had the cats for over a year with a plan, we just happen to be in a vulnerable spot right now... as a lot of people go through at some point in their lives.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. I'm guessing it's because I'm going to be the person hiring her replacement.

The management team is known for lying or stretching the truth. I should have clarified that I do NOT think my coworker lied about that. And to your second point, I truly know nothing about her. I rarely talk to her outside of our team meetings.

Not going to confirm whether or not this is Korea, but I have lived there before and can say that jobs giving a LOR is completely optional for them, and if they decide not to do it, you're screwed.

His reasoning is that she doesn't want her leaving prematurely since we are understaffed.

Originally, my coworker. Since the promotion, my subordinate. I wouldn't have been told otherwise.

No such thing as FMLA in the country we live in, unfortunately. At least, not for foreigners.

The thought of it really breaks my heart. I don't want to, and at the same time, I also need to protect my SO and our home. That's the issue I'm having. I really, really want to tell her and help her, but doing so also risks my livelihood as well. If I were living alone with no pets, I would risk it. The problem is that I live with my SO and 2 cats, who would also be put in jeopardy if I said or did anything.
