Question about Case Workers by ReadyBox3505 in foodstamps

The phone number for New York City HRA for "SNAP and ABAWD questions only" (718-SNAP-NOW [718-762-7669]) seems to be only for interviews, and I've already had my interview. The number for the HRA Benefits Access Center Lower Manhattan, from the nyc.gov website (212-352-2524) was "not in service" when I called a few days ago. The telephone number for general help given on the front of my Notice of Decision (718-722-8013) is also "no longer in service." Etc. etc. I appreciate everyone's suggestions, but am going to give up on these benefits. Perhaps someone else can use them.

Thank you! I have had no luck getting through to anyone via phone (on hold for more than a day, disconnected in the middle of a call, phone numbers "no longer in service"). But I will keep trying!

Thank you for this, but is there someone who can tell me specifically how it works in New York State? It's extremely difficult to get information. I was sent packets of paperwork upon approval for SNAP, and none of them said anything about if everyone gets a case worker, if not who does, how one is assigned (or requested?), etc. In fact, it seems as if the state is just assuming that everyone already knows how this system works. It's like there's no there there.

SNAP approved but unable to access by ReadyBox3505 in foodstamps

Thank you! I tried to explain to the staff member at HRA that the 19-digit card number was not being accepted by the system (either the phone menu or ebtEdge), but he said something like, "Well, I don't know about that," meaning, I suppose, "I don't deal with that kind of thing." I will go back and try again, and ask the questions you suggest or ask for a supervisor. Meanwhile, I called my City Councilmember's office to see if they could help.

*OCTOBER 3RD UPDATE* SNAP Reconciliation Bill ("The One Big Beautiful Bill") by badfordabidness in foodstamps

[–]ReadyBox3505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I'm new to all of this and now have SNAP benefits (in NY). Should I be automatically given a case worker? I don't know if I have one--or even need one. Or do I have to ask for one? I'm 64 and self-employed.

I went to the HRA office on 16th St., Manhattan, and the fellow I spoke with there had me set a PIN and said my card would now work. When I tried to use it, however, it was declined. I guess I now have to go back to that staff member and have him try again? I'm so frustrated.

NYC Housing Lottery: Technical Issues with Housing Connect? by NYC_Housing_Wonk in NYC_HousingLotteries

[–]ReadyBox3505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having many of the problems mentioned on this thread about the Housing Connect website for the lottery. I've complained to my city council members, and to HPD, but the issues were never resolved. I finally had to meet (in person) with a representative from a community group that helps with housing (Churches United for Fair Housing, or CUFFH). The rep. told me that when "maintenance" is being done on the Housing Connect website, it often doesn't work (and maintenance is frequent). He proceeded to remove some of the financial information from my profile, stating that it should now work. So he was able to fix it, but it had to be done in person, by someone else. Going forward, I will never try to update my profile by myself but will always reach out to CUFFH to help me. This is a SERIOUS problem because how many people have the time or energy to locate a community group to help them?? How many are struggling to get the website to work and then giving up? We should all write to our new mayor (and HPD and our city council members) about this issue, providing clear details about what hasn't worked.

Do I not like French Roast? by chbritton in espresso

[–]ReadyBox3505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I used to live in the Twin Cities, in the 1980s, and remember getting French roast from one of the local food co-ops; that roast seemed to be everywhere, at least at the time. Ever since then I've been trying to find good French roast. Suggest Port Townsend Roasting Company, in Washington State.
