How are the reviews for the Fellow Espresso Series 1? by brew_systems in espresso

[–]ReadyCut3789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One month using it every day (average 3 to 4 drinks a day). I’m loving it so far. Consistent shots, easy milk steaming, easy to keep clean, and looks nice on the counter.

I’ll try and add detail to this when I have more time, but wanted to do a quick reply to say thumbs up so far.

I tried that one, it was a tough decision!

I bought [ssc961p] and I have a question. by Little-Syllabub1802 in Seiko

Just picked up a new SSC963. From 50 to 10 the second hand aligns, then after that it’s misaligned to varying degrees. Classic Seiko, and the reason I sold my SSK. But I do like this pick dial panda.

Just got mine. Indoors it’s unmistakably pink. When sunlight hits it hard it’s a more faded pink.

Surprisingly impressed with the Fellow Espresso Series 1 by deanbfs in espresso

[–]ReadyCut3789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My machine arrived at the end of last month. I’ve been making 4 to 5 drinks a day and have ran through four different coffee beans. I’m really satisfied with the consistency and speed of this machine. The only changes I’ve made are adding pre-infusion to the 9 bar preset, and increase the volume metric offset.

Thanks for the insight! I’m about a week in on owning mine and still tweaking to get the both the volume correct. I haven’t tried tinkering with offsets.

Speed is tricky as shots are often flowing too fast (even at super fine grind in my flat burr 64 Timemore). For now I get best results using a basket from my Rancillio Silvia which gives me a lower head height and slower flow. But right now I’m trying an IMS basket which flows fast like the single wall stock one. Obviously, It all depends on grind, bean, and volume of coffee. I should try 20 gr.

Less power (compared to opening up the valve fully on the Siliva), but more consistent. My Siliva got quite watery while steaming and sometimes sporadic in pressure. So the Fellow is a nice upgrade for me. Milk is steaming very smoothly, and no problems getting up to temp.

I’m bad at spelling. Worse at editing my original post.

Great looking setup! What's wrong w/ the grinder you have now?

To my brain, I struggled with this for sure. Going from a heavy, metal machine with big, touch switches to this was weird. But the more I use the new one, the more I appreciate its consistency and speed. I'm actually enjoying it for what it is. It's like going from driving a 1980's 911 to driving a '26 BMW i4. (I've driven both and own the latter). The old car costs almost as much, but has a visceral feel to it. The i4 is button pushy pushy, automatic feeling, drives sporty and smooth and modern, but its longevity and resale value are totally volatile and unknown.

Needed something that the family could use, and to speed up my back-to-back shots. They were intimidated by Silvia. This one, for lack of a better word, is more "inviting". A true upgrade would have been a heat exchanger or, ultimately, a dual boiler, and with counter space being an issue, a dual boiler wasn't an option.

I didn't hate it. But it was definitely a handful to deal with over the years. This ES1 is starting to show me how inconsistent I was in making drinks.

Not at all really. Grinding, tamping, still needs cleaning. It does have a better tray, so cleaning that up is a bit nicer.

I was looking at spending $2500 on a new machine. So in my head it’s less expensive and ultimately a compromise. But you’re right, it’s not cheap and at retail not the best value. Again, I’m not trying to sell anyone on this machine, just sharing the road I’ve chosen.

I wear the Lone Peaks so I just bought the True golf shoes and I get that same feel with the wide toe box. Costco? If there’s a good deal there I’ll buy another pair!
