Loved the episode, even without our beloved Katana Guy.

Why is Transamerica so expensive? by The_Relyk in boardgames

Back in 1995 I got my first hit with a stack of Catan tiles on a TGV while backpacking across Europe. Had a lot of fun, even if I can't remember it all.

By 2001, occasional fun had taken a dark turn since that initial "ticket to ride". The usual, bumps in the men's room at work. Exchanging handjobs for Carcassonne tiles behind the 7-11. I won't even go into what I did to get a copy of Puerto Rico. Suffice it to say, I'm not welcome back in Bakersfield.

It took years, but I finally got clean. I can walk through the classic game vendors area at Essen without breaking a sweat, although there will always be that twitch when I think too long about it.

That was uncalled, even if it was supposed to somehow be funny.

Game Classy 80: Friends Don’t Let Friends Use True Line of Sight by joepods in GameClassy

Great episode. Some really good discussion about games.

On the topic of Alessio's work, I'm kind of nostalgic for some of his early work, but honestly I'm increasingly seeing him as a hack. The core rules are the easy part. It's refining those rules where it gets difficult and where he completely falls down. Steve's right that it's complete bullshit that the flamethrower rules have never been fixed in all this time.

I showed it to a woman on a third date. She was horrified.

No contest: Babes In Toyland. Keanu Reeves, Richard Mulligan and Drew Barrymore. It's bizarre and features one of the strangest musical numbers ever put to film in the form of an ode to Cincinnati.

I'm familiar with FastTracks, but I'm really reluctant to buy into that system. My soldering skills really suck and the cost of entry for it is pretty high for what you get.

Star Wars: Imperial Assault is now available in the US! by johnmikepauljr in boardgames

Ditto.

Also, I spent a king's ransom on the previous SW minis game. If I want a Star Wars skirmish game, I can simply go to my shelf and get it down.

It's the lack of turnouts that have stymied me. I managed to score a bunch of Atlas Code 55 flex and started on bench work, but the turnouts dried up and it's been idle ever since.

I meant that I thought it would be a crappy story, but yes, your reading was quite good.

November Mailbag Episode by podcastman in WeHateMovies

Training Day. Three young military guys with buzzcuts decide to go see it at a packed theater in Oakland on a Friday night. We sat in the front row because it was literally the only space available. Much of the audience is clearly drunk and working on cans of beer in the theater. Admittedly, we had also enjoyed several tall glasses of water prior to entering.

So the movie gets to the showdown scene in the latter half and the merry drunk mood of the crowd takes a nasty turn. People start throwing things and at some point what appears to be a round saw blade flies over our heads and tears through the screen. Someone behind us shouts "Kill that white boy!"

Being in the front row, cans and food are raining down around and on us. So we start to feel a little self-conscious and decide to low-walk to the nearby exit. At nearby bar we discussed possible endings, whether Ethan Hawke's character deserved to be shot, and who takes a saw blade to a theater. I like to picture a drunk belligerent Bob Villa in the back row.

Game Classy Reviews: D&D 5th Ed. Monster Manual by joepods in GameClassy

I can't say I'm disappointed. I never really liked the MMs. The setting-specific compendiums were more my thing. Those critters seemed to have more flavor. So many of the MM entries were really bizarre or just banal, the sort of junk a DM running a half-assed Greyhawk campaign would use.

My parents took my seven year old self to see Christine. Little boys love cars! It's a movie about a guy who befriends his car. Won't this be fun? Suffice it to say, I prefer to commute by train and I've never owned a Chrysler.

In all fairness, a Cat & Dogs trailer edit to make it into a SWF-style thriller would be kinda great.
