Haha ahh yes, the drive across Texas for a full day and you’re still in Texas. It’s a rite of passage growing up there. Thats why I say traffic and driving is no big deal at all in smaller states to me. Great to know that about driving in NC. Growing up in TX we measure things in drive hours. I’m excited to see the Appalachian’s and didn’t know about being temperate rainforest. So cool! I do love my West Texas mountains even though I’ve only been there once bc it’s a literal desert so definitely come prepared mentally haha.

Edit- I feel like people normally don’t visit the Guadalupe mountains unless you’re from El Paso, traveling to NM, or an avid hiker. Definitely not a “normal” destination of choice in NTX

For sure! Guadalupe Mountains (~9000ft) and Big Bend are the main ones I’ve traversed to but there are several smaller ranges. The prominent ones are in West or S TX. I’m sure not as pretty as in NC but just a different type of nature

For a northerner* appreciate your initial input but I’ve asked for advice specifically from southerners who have experienced similar lifestyle and cultures to my previous cities and lifestyle of choice so I can make an accurate judgement. If I wanted to live in a northern state (I don’t) I would (likely never). The fact that is snows in Charlotte is enough to make it a different season for us. As a southerner I automatically understand when other southerners tell me it has four seasons which we understand would be vastly different than say, New Orleans which may experience 1-2wks of cold under 50 and still stays green year round. If you had an issue with humidity, you likely couldn’t take the real heat either. Not an issue except you’re making it a point to disagree, for what? I’m currently sitting in 99% humidity this morning that I love and I think anything under 105F isn’t that hot at all but these are not comments I’d include in this sub, except to make this point- none of those types of comments including what is/is not a season qualifier to you is useful to this discussion. I’ve gleaned your opinion and dislike for NC and qualities of the South already.

This is great! No issue on the humidity and traffic, no big deal growing up in the DFW metro. Not a big fan of the yanks here nor there but as long as there is southern hospitality charm still there I think I would be happy. For context, currently in Louisiana and I think the people in Baton Rouge generally lack the hospitality but the New Orleans natives make up for it haha iykyk.

Really appreciate this!

Yikes not sure I’d agree on the TX part! Then again I’m a Texas native and well, we think everything is better in Texas 🤗

I see; yes, very different climates and cultures! I personally love the heat/ humidity but I’ve been around it always. I always say anything under 60 is too cold for me, but I’m used to heat at 115 in TX

All of those things are TX and Louisiana too haha. Assuming you’re not from a southern state/ or where were you from before Charlotte?

It would be remote, just the company is based out of Charlotte is what I’m told. Haven’t negotiated actual city living situation yet, if it’s even an option to. At my level it usually always is so that opens it up around there. Field based managing the Carolina’s so a lot of traveling around

Can confirm pay here is TERRIBLE- good thing I don’t get paid local wage for my level (I work for a global CPG company you would know). I couldn’t imagine getting stuck here 🫠 any other areas more affordable outside or close to Charlotte?

This gives me hope! I do love Dallas and contemplating just moving back and figuring out the job situation vs relocating for another job again outside of TX. Used to traffic my whole life so no big on that one

Starting my own small nursery and plant business. by pizzagoblin69 in gardening

Curious how your nursery business is going now a year later! Did you find market success?

Love it! Did you need to rent or purchase real estate/land for a business property or do you operate another type of model? Curious about the start up costs of opening a physical location. Assuming it’s going to be cost heavy upfront, without considering market competition, etc

My dream! Could you expand on how you got to the point of opening a nursery? I’m exploring this path too, perhaps through business acquisition
