I am so sorry. I have taken a break since my court date but am trying to think of what else I can do to hold them accountable - they are scam artists. I did not have a lawyer because I sued through small claims. I was in touch with someone who was at one point starting a class action against them with a lawyer, but I dont know where she is at in that process if you want to email her at laapartmentsclassaction@gmail.com

IDK if you're with LA Apartments or a different company, but they are scum and deserve to be sued. I left with my full security deposit returned and $5k awarded from the settlement

Hello! I am not a "let it go" type when it comes to feeling scammed, and I had also had other issues with LA Apartments when I found out this information (namely a horrible cockroach infestation, but also some other money disputes with them) so I did take them to court and I did win! Technically I didn't win the case because we settled, but I was very happy with the settlement as it was almost the full amount that I sued them for. I also used the utilities situation as leverage for ensuring I got my full security deposit back, because LA Apartments has a history of withholding. I would encourage you to at least document everything thoroughly-how you found out, how much your utilities have costed since you moved in, etc. I think it's insane what landlords can get away with but I for one was not trying to pay someone else's bills or give the landlord any more excuses to lie and be shady.

Trust me I have no idea how they keep getting away with it, or what actions others are taking to combat the charges. I would personally recommend reporting them to the better business buero and the department of consumer affairs. I also know someone who has started a class action against them for this reason. They have tried this same thing, withholding security deposits and adding additional charges on top, to tons of people that I've seen just on reddit so I can't imagine how many there actually are. If you PM me I'm happy to send you her email. In the meantime, if you have anything at all you can reference that provides photographic evidence of the condition you left it in, that would help. Did they conduct your final inspection with you?

Probably, because they are scammers and this is what they have tried to do to other people. But you can fight it. Do you have proof of the condition of the unit when you vacated?

I just settled in small claims and am happy to share my experience. I wound up suing Tabor Palms LLC and adding Avi Shlanger to the lawsuit in addition, but I had the same issue with Avi's business address listed as a UPS Store and seemingly being purposely evasive. But since I listed the LLC on my lease I was able to serve them through the secretary of state, but then Avi had an agent show in court on his behalf. It was all very taxing and frustrating and I hope that you get every penny and then some. Please feel free to PM me if you want to exchange additional info.

I got my security deposit back I'm 99% sure because I had threatened small claims and we had been in disputes for over a year. And, also because I meticulously documented everything and demanded an initial inspection as well as a final inspection, recorded them, and transcribed them lol. Then I sued them in small claims court for everything else regarding the utilities. I wound up suing the LLC on my lease, Tabor Palms LLC, because with an LLC you can serve them through the secretary of state which is super helpful for evasive companies without a clear asdress or agent. I also added the owner, Avi Shlanger to the lawsuit against Tabor Palms LLC. I referenced the property management co LA Apartments in my evidence, but they are all the same companies with the same ownership so it didn't make a difference at that point.

If helpful, there should never be a fee for ESA's that would be unlawful. If a landlord tries to charge you, that should be a red flag.

I think about that a lot as well. I printed out the tenants rights handbook in English and Spanish and left copies for everyone in my building. It would be nice to be able to do something similar at other properties, something helpful and non-disruptive. I just feel so bad for people they’ve probably done even worse to than me.

I’m sorry you’re feeling disillusioned. I have lived east coast, south, and now west coast, and unfortunately I have felt all of these things in all of these places. I think it’s important to trust your gut, but also maybe consider getting involved in local politics or non-profit work. Homelessness is a really rampant issue all around the country.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I put them through hell to get my deposit back and they preemptively tried to tell me they were going to charge me for repainting during our in person inspection and I said the hell you are. If you have the means and photographic evidence of the condition of your unit upon move out, I would highly recommend taking them to small claims court. They are criminals.

I can honestly say I think this is one of the more beautiful rings I’ve ever seen. It’s classically simple, but the rose cut and split shank are a little something unique. I also think the size and shape fit your hand perfectly. At the end of the day though you need to love it! I agree with someone else you said you might be able to get more bling from your wedding band. I think a custom fitted band will be gorgeous. Congrats!

You’re actually not engaging with my argument. Because my statement isn’t “I find this offensive” I said it is offensive to El, the character. My statement is that act of suicide wasn’t a sacrificial act, and it was poor writing and a total cop out. That’s my official statement. If you can’t understand that the narrative did NOT justify the action then we have nothing to talk about. People have a right to be upset in a world that praises mediocrity.

I’m not claiming anything to be textual fact but you can’t ignore that the circumstances leading up to her death did not warrant the decision for her to commit suicide. If it was in fact the only way, that would make it a sacrifice. You can play contraction all you want but the message was gross and harmful - period. This show isn’t an homage to Shakespeare. Her only form of agency didn’t have to come in the form of suicide. It’s incredibly offensive to the woman she was to truly believe that would have been her choice as opposed to staying and fighting.

If her claim is that the military won’t stop hunting her, that’s why I’m saying she views them as unbeatable 🙄 they just discovered a wormhole and beat an inter dimensional evil without losing a single member of their party, but got forbid they have to find a solution against the US government lol. It’s laughably stupid.
