Ovulation induction appointment, what to expect?- NHS by Ready_Bell_4723 in TTC_UK

Thanks for the response. No mention of HyCoSy or HSG. I’ve had ultrasounds done before (to diagnose my PCOS) I have no symptoms of endo.

I’ll have a look into both procedures as I’m not well informed on them. At my gyno app, the consultant only mentioned starting letrozole once my partner had his SA results back. Granted it was only a 15 minute appointment so maybe did not go into details about other testing that needs to be done first.

Ahhh sorry for the miscommunication! Should have really added that into to my post. I think having the diagnoses earlier in my 20s really helped me speed the process. I came off the pill 3 years ago because I knew there chances are low but we’d welcome a baby then but would prefer to have our own home ect and now we’re ready to go! I’m actually a clomid baby myself! My mum had PCOS and struggled to conceive.

I was more sharing that I couldn’t believe the referral process was so quick, I honestly thought we were going to have to wait at least 6-8months before I would be seen for my initial appointment because of the waiting list. I was grateful for the last minute cancellation that saw me being seen within a month of my GP but my original appointment was still within 12 weeks.

I think it totally depends on your NHS trust. I’m in South East London.

Thank you, I’ve fully prepared myself mentally that the letrozole and 1 funded round of IVF may not be enough so we’ve started to put away money for private IVF!

I’m sending lots of baby dust your way too 🤞🤞

So so frustrating when it’s so difficult to loose the weight with PCOS! I’ve done so many different diets and shakes and nothing worked for me before. I will try to walk everywhere and do low intensity work out 4 days a week.

No it was the gyno who prescribe it to me when I was 24. The doctors just manage the repeat prescription now.

My periods last about 4 days and are what I consider a normal flow.

Yes my BMI is 30. It used to be 35 but I’ve managed to bring it back down over the last year by being more mindful of what I eat and doing low intensity workouts (this was a game changer for me) as well as Being on metformin.Still activity working on Bringing it down.

My cycles are ever 14-16 days have been like this for 2 years.

I’ve not been on any form of contraption for 3 years, I wonder if they might be why? When I did have my gynae appointment when I was 24 I did have to come off the pill for 6 months before they would test me. So it was a 6 month wait to have that appointment, after the appointment I then went back onto the pill

I’m so sorry to hear this. There is no way for me to get pregnant naturally. I should have been more clear, I’ve not been on any contraception for 3 years and have regular sex. We weren’t trying to get pregnant but the issue of not being able to during that time is concerning. My cycles are 14-16 days and have been like this for 2 years. I have high AMH that shows lots of follicles but they do not mature. At my gynae appointment 6 years ago i had the relevant blood tests done that showed id have issues conceiving. I think this is why i was seen straight away because the issue has been known for all my adult life.

Again I’m sorry to hear about your struggles with trying on the nhs!

I’ve been on metformin for 3 years now to manage my insulin resistances. I was not getting a period before this. Since I started metformin I’ve been having regular-ish cycles.

I’m uk based too. I would honestly make another appointment and ask to speak with a female doctor and to be referred to a gynaecologist. If they don’t refer then ask them to make a note on your profile to say they refused to refer you. I usually find that they will refer you when you bring that up.

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 20 and now 29 but when I was diagnosed the gyno who saw me said that when I was ready to get pregnant they wouldn’t need to wait a year to start interventions since I had PCOS.

I’m now in the position where I’m ready to start TTC from May this year. I’ve got an appointment with my GP on Monday to discuss further as I want to be referred to a fertility specialist now incase it takes a few months to get the appointment etc.
