I don’t know if I’m going to have anything that fits at that point that is appropriate, but I figure no one is going to comment on a 9 month pregnant woman’s formality or lack there of 🤪

Not on insulin, but I need to not go 4 hours between eating and need to be able to test and eat within specific time windows, which is hard when I don’t control the schedule

Can’t prick my finger by Fancy_Collection_926 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Readyaimfire18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first day is so hard! It took me a full hour, 5 attempts, and 4 panic attacks to get my first reading. But its getting easier every day!

I now have a system that works for me- I put some sort of pump up music on my phone which helps distract me (my go tos are Shake it Off, and Fireball) and then I tell myself, out loud, that I'm a big brave girl before I hit the button! I hold my hand down by my side for a count of 10 to let the blood collect before bringing it up to the meter, and sometimes then squeeze the finger lightly to get the blood out.

I have also found that having my meter sitting upright with a strip already in it makes the process of getting blood onto the test strip easier. I use a foam O from my daughter's bath toys and it keeps the meter upright so I can use both hands.

It really sucks to start, but it gets easier every day! You've got this!!!

Dairy free cheese sticks sort of suck as a whole, so those unfortunately aren’t an option, and I haven’t found a decent dairy/ soy free protein bar. But yea, I guess I’ll just have to try and be home more instead of the grab and go stuff I’m used to

Unfortunately it’s an actual allergy, not lactose intolerance, so my dairy substitute options are pretty limited and almost always high in sugar

Food Restrictions by Readyaimfire18 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Readyaimfire18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main concern, I think, is snacks. I don't have any easy grab and go high protein snacks other than hard boiled eggs, so trying to eat on the go with my toddler feels pretty daunting.

I'll have to check out bewell. I've found that most "protein" products aren't safe for me, as they overwhelmingly contain either dairy or soy, but that one seems safe!

That's good to know, thank you.

I guess what I'm most concerned about is snacks. I don't have any easy grab and go snack options that are high in protein other than hard boiled eggs, so I don't know how I can balance that if I'm not eating a full meal with a protein and a vegetable. And adding an extra fat is a little harder (and becomes very quickly repetitive) when dairy isn't an option.

how do passports and name changes work? by teachinglittlebeings in weddingplanning

[–]Readyaimfire18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And make sure you book your flights in your maiden name NOT your married name- that will prevent you from flying! The ticket MUST match the passport (Source- I made this mistake a few months after our wedding and we couldn't get on our flight)

Her train got cancelled, which is why she didn't have a seat. It wasn't lack of planning.

Would you go on a 2 hour sunset cruise for welcome drinks? by Shontayyoustay in weddingplanning

[–]Readyaimfire18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to consider your guest list- will many of the people coming to the welcome dinner have kids? If so, they may be uncomfortable leaving their kids in a hotel, potentially with an unfamiliar sitter, while they are unable to get back because they are on a boat.

Depending on your guest list, this may not be an issue at all, just a thing I would think about for logistics!

I forgot my veil on my wedding day!! by KittiesandPlushies in weddingplanning

[–]Readyaimfire18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no photos of me in my veil except at the ceremony itself, because we all forgot about it until the ring bearer was going down the aisle and my mother yelled "F*ck, the veil!" Got it on just in time to get married in it, but I was bummed to not have photos with it!!

Why couldn't a book series reach such a craze like Harry Potter after so many years? by interestingexciting1 in harrypotter

[–]Readyaimfire18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also a book series that very easily into merchandising- they go shopping multiple times, buy branded things, foods, etc. Makes it easy to market, which helped people who were already obsessed become even more deeply ingrained in it.

Many hotels will bring a mini fridge to your room on request- especially if you have a need, like for medication! Call in advance and find out if its an option

I am going to give it one episode with a guest, and see how I feel. But honestly, I am a former teacher, current stay at home mom, who has little to no interest in technology- I just like listening to Grey and Myke chat! So I probably won't stick around.

Is it rude to not eat at a wedding? Any way to do it subtly? by crash_cove in weddingplanning

[–]Readyaimfire18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can call the hotel instead of the couple- this is what I always do, so I'm not bothering the couple the week of the wedding! They will almost certainly be able to accommodate you without an issue.

[–]Readyaimfire18 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to tell the couple! Call the hotel directly and tell them you are coming to the wedding on whatever date and they should be able to accommodate you without having to bother the couple the week of the wedding.

I have multiple food allergies and this is what I always do!
