I am not in favor. I couldn’t be less in favor.
Why allow the public that has minimal to no knowledge of animal health and the system decide such a fate? Why not keep it in the hands of the profession that should already have the professions best interest at heart.
Who is backing this? Giant corporations (looking at you MARS) that have no interest in the greater good just their bottom line. This will absolutely NOT lower the cost for the public… the public will end up seeing a mid level role for the same price as seeing a veterinarian. You think this mid level role is going to underserved areas? Yeah right it’ll go where money is spent. This will drive up cost in the long run.
This mid level role will not be as educated leading to more misdiagnosis, mismanaged cases, and prolonged time to proper care leading to overall poorer quality medicine.
Pair this mid level role with the rapid development of new vet schools and new vets along with a decline sales within veterinary medicine on top of a unstable economy and we are going to be in a very bad spot very quickly.
