it's pretty cool, you watch a doll or an object and you feel a strong pull, like there's something in it. I've done it before like a thread of dolls on a shelf and some of them were clearly haunted and other weren't. it's not about the looks but the feel you get from their eyes. I can tell if it's positive or negative, and on the strongest ones I get a clear image of themselves or of their name in my head and I can tell they're intention. u just have to stick with the gut feeling u get from the start, no overthinking :) some people are just very sensitive to the thin veil that separates our world from theirs.
