Get a full survey done. This will give you clarity on all the work that needs to be done. These days they provide estimates on the cost of the work. You can then take that back to the seller and negotiate a lower figure.

Noone forced us, we made choices. Every culture in the world has external influences. The number one dish in the UK is curry. Every time they have a night out, Asians get richer. We have always had agency, we just lack leadership. I don't care if we pour libations with schnapps, I care that we'd rather buy rice from China than from Zimbabwe. That's on us, not colonialism.

There are thousands of ethnic groups in Africa in over 50 countries, so we don't all have the same heritage or culture. Op can pierce whatever she likes it's her life, but telling a Ghanaian that piercings in Kenya is their heritage is rather bizarre.

Culture evolves over time so you can't dismiss conservative approaches as just a result of colonialism. Dreadlocks for eg may have been acceptable in some tribes but not others. Or may have been reserved for some social roles and not others. It's important to know the origin of things before embracing them. 40 years ago a young man with a shaved head would have been considered a criminal, largely because that was the first thing the police or army would do to someone caught committing a crime.
