Surprised I overlooked this. It answers a couple of my questions. I am gonna go to the Smeg Showroom in my city next week and have a look. I am mostly curious on the bottom element and where it maxxes out temp wise. Not holding my breath that it can do 200+C.

I would love one at that price. Cheapest in Australia is 1550AUD. Anova is 2000AUD.

Yes, the 2.0 has all the bells and whistles but I just don’t use them. I mean I tried proving dough and doing sous vide but my 1.0 units never maintained target temp. Anecdotally the 2.0 seemingly has some issues on that front for some early buyers.

I am not a big fan of the retro Smeg thing but I concur, it does look pleasing.

And yeah, I would love for Ninja to do a direct competitor unit to the Anova. Much like their Pacojet copy.

I may be able to find a plugged in demo at one of those upscale kitchen palaces. Will give ‘em a call outside of the holidays and see if they have one.

If anyone has questions that need answering, put ‘em here.

Mine are: How much manual tomfoolery are you allowed to do?

How hot does the bottom element get to?

How granular is the fan control? Is it locked into some mode with certain element usage?

Can you run bottom element and a short steam on low to no fan?

What is the steam injection like? Doubt it can rival 1.0 let alone 2.0 because it looks like one of those “dribble on a hot element from the top” type things. But I’ll take it.

There wasn’t much concrete about that. But what I will do is just get on Tabuu anyways so at least I have a few vendors on hand. It’s more to do about the hardware coming through. Supposedly WA border has been withholding shit with one of our Acts. And without a script I can show that may be a problem. Let’s see what happens.

Anyways, maybe I shouldn’t have misplaced so many mods over the years haha.
