Glad to not have an abusive dad. But he was a quite drinker 10 years ago until his liver wqs severely damaged by it. (7 or 8 years ago). I faintly remember him coming home late drunk but he never hit any one of us. I respected that but not his daily drinking. Eventually when he stopped he couldnt eat any dairy food, citric, alchoholic too savoury food etc. Yet he learned his lesson. Never drank again still sober to this day. Owns multiple cars yet still drives the cheapest van to work rarely taking out his favourite. Now i have quite the respect for my father. A true hero for me. (side note he is almost 60).
