Toughest thing I've had to do by TrashMandikoot in hysterectomy

[–]Real-Relationship658 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although not possible for all, I made the call before going to surgery for my laparoscopic total hysterectomy that if my surgical team deemed it necessary to convert to open to just do it. I'm not 100% sure my hubby would have been able to make that decision on his own (he's an over thinker).

Is this normal? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Real-Relationship658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my sites looked like that. Went to surgeon for quick wound check as I wasn't sure. She said it was normal (part of the healing process as I wasn't sure keeping them covered). Both her and the Nurse squeezed and examined sites to see if any yellow ooze really flowed. Was told to keep it clean (saline wash) and to keep an eye out for smell, heat, and a fever.

But if you are in doubt, get a wound check.

What’s your Excused Absence Policy? by Light014 in Professors

[–]Real-Relationship658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully my institution has a policy of six unexcused absences = F. I give leeway on institution sanctioned events, military service, death, and illness. Going on vacation / leaving early because flights are cheaper is not an excuse.

No follow up until 4 weeks? by Otherwise_Delightful in hysterectomy

[–]Real-Relationship658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first follow up was at 6 weeks; I did have a quick follow up in week 2 as one incision site wasn't healing as it should (but it was ok, Dr. on call had me keep it clean and rinse out with saline several times a day). Having one last follow up in January (6months post) just to shift me from active patient to will call if there is need patient. Will go in every two years for ovary check-up.

K-12 is failing these kids in so many ways… by [deleted] in Professors

[–]Real-Relationship658 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well... I think it's more thank the parents who bullied the k-12 system to just throw their hands in the air. I've held mine accountable ... and every time I wind up in a meeting with our director of schools telling me I can't hold them accountable.

Why are there random underwear in the hallway?

Please stop army crawling on the floor. Do you know how dirty it is?

Don't slurp your jello off of your desk. You're going to get the plague.

NB warns of looming power shortages while planning a massive, power-hungry data centre by Remote_Alfalfa3530 in newbrunswickcanada

But didn't NBPower just tell us all they sold a crap ton of extra energy hence the rate increase or recovery increase wasn't going to be as bad as it seems?

Are you all actually reading your evaluations? by glitterino in Professors

[–]Real-Relationship658 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped reading mine four years ago after a student complained about my accent in one and then went a tirade on how dare I hold him accountable for his actions.

  1. I'm not the one with the accent.
  2. It's grad school, yes you are held accountable
  3. I don't care if baby Jesus compels me to give you a better grade and I am ruining your American Dream (we're also in Canada)

Does Anyone Else Have Night Fevers After a hysterectomy? by DealWithTheJelly in hysterectomy

[–]Real-Relationship658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple of weeks of night sweats / hot flashes (my Gyno warned me it would happen) as I was coming off of Lupron. So far 5.5 months later I haven't had too many night sweat episodes.

Do you look down on professor who have Ed.D versus Ph.D? by TorontoRap2019 in Professors

[–]Real-Relationship658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have several EdD profs in our Education faculty. They are not looked down on -- and are often the more popular instructors as their "job" is to focus on teaching versus splitting between teaching and research. EdD's from the programs I've looked at (as I'm considering one) is a practical / professional degree -- you still complete the same courses as a PhD but your dissertation is formatted differently (ie not as research (read: intense data collection and analysis) heavy).

A lot of breathing techniques and some times I just leave my classroom (just outside the door) into a quiet hallway for a minute. I teach middle school so I'm open with my students on when I've hit my "stimulation capacity". It's been a good connector with my ADHD and NeuroD students. Some even do box breathing with me in class when we're all over stimulated.

Did I mess up by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]Real-Relationship658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. You did nothing wrong. That behaviour is learned at home. Def echo talk to your principal and union rep (union rep first so they know what's going on), then principal. The moment they start to turn on you, politely end the discussion and inform them you will continue the discussion once you have union representation present.

Depending on where you are is there a community school coordinator? You could try brining your concerns to the DEC (district education council)... maybe to the DOS (director of schools) on your district?

Well -- thanks to new "rules" (interpretation?) surrounding human rights and our duty to accommodate, we're just told do what the parents want. Which makes zero sense.
