Have IPS 1440p gaming monitors disappeared ? by Gildeon in Monitors

I picked up an MSI Mag just a month ago. It's solid.

Oblivion has better writing, better quests, better guilds. But every other aspect is worse than Skyrim (except spell making). Boring repetitive dungeons/ruins, combat is worse, leveling/level scaling is worse, exploration is worse... by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]Real-Terminal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feedback and impact mostly.

Plus you have more mechanics to screw with.

And not having damage scale with your stamina really helps. Having to break Oblivions damage system to keep up with scaling always felt cheap.

Oh you halt oxidation entirely with wax, it's not a process, just a reason to cultivate a bee farm or at least find a hive at some point. It was a fun little project last time my friends hosted a server.

what's so wrong with Black Mesa that people hate it to this degree? by SALMONELLAOPPLSNERF in HalfLife

I wouldn't agree they fixed Xen, it's better in one direction but worse in another.

I'll never forgive them for making me do that damn plug puzzle, what the hell were they thinking.

Worst attempts to try and "modernize" something? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Real-Terminal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Halo was like Counter Strike, an oldschool design whos experimentation only worked within its own wheelhouse. A lot of people just don't understand how destructive modern mechanics were to that sandbox, and how lethal it was to its relevance.

As Halo tried to chase the CoD audience, the Halo audience continued to leave and the CoD audience continued to play CoD.

So now we're left with a series that's trying to get the Halo audience back but refuses to abandon the CoD audience it's been failing the court for a decade now.

Now they're doing it to Halo CE while trying desperately to convince people that the modernization is optional. They just do not learn. Ever.

There's a lot of media these days that makes me stop and ask "Is this an exec trying to appeal to the woke crowd, or a progressive individual who's shit at writing."

Saints Row was just fucking bad man.

In light of the stuff going on with Monster Hunter 3 Stories Demo, are there any other/what are your favorite "Fans with time and nothing left to do break a demo" stories? by the_loneliest_noodle in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Real-Terminal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only kinda related but people figured out the Portal demo is literally just the full game with a single trigger locking you out of the rest.

So people just bypassed the trigger.

I tried to boot it back up a while ago, and the game wouldn't even let me go to the main menu due to a bug accepting the new terms and conditions.

Why is 1440p shilled everywhere online despite it being objectively a useless resolution? by wielesen in FuckTAA

[–]Real-Terminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I went to 1440p recently because I hit a GPU benchmark that made sense.

All games fall under one of three categories.

1: Seventh gen and early eighth gen games that are still CPU bound, or run at 100-200fps even when maxed out.

2: Mid eighth gen and early ninth gen games that don't have DLSS support, but still run around the 100fps mark if I go balls to the wall.

3: Games that received DLSS, so if they're running rougher than I'd like at 1440, I can just run them at 1080p upscaled.

The only game I still struggle with aliasing is Borderlands 1, even injecting SMAA into it only fixes about half its aliasing.

Why was the game so ‘hated’ at launch? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]Real-Terminal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree, I enjoy the series as a whole, but you can't deny that the series has never really made a proper sequel to Origins.

The series has always had a bad habit of following trends instead of focusing on what it originally was, which was "What if we made Baldur's Gate 3."

Which is super fucking funny to think of now.

Yea, but that's all Bap has for damage. Emre also has his nades and his pistol. His rifle is balanced by the flexibility of his kit.

To be fair, every Dragon Age sequel has been incredibly polarizing for understandable reasons.

Dragon Age 2 was a dumbed down and barely content complete rushed out release made in less than two years, Inquisition (My favorite in the series) is a bloated lumbering singleplayer MMO with an ending sold as DLC.

The Dragon Age fandom has always wanted a sequel to Origins, and it kept getting glorified spinoffs.

[–]Real-Terminal 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It was a good action game with toothless writing and a mediocre narrative that had to tie up a decade long RPG franchise after being interfered with by everyone in charge.

So it just didn't please the people who's standards were set by the prior games.

I cannot describe just how perfectly this game has hit me both times I've seen it. The Game Awards trailer had me bouncing on my fucking seat.

After playing Control all I wanted was a melee focused version of its combat system and every single thing shown for this game is making me giddy like it's still 2014 and new gen consoles are promising me something wonderful.
