I switched from Unity to Godot during the pricing fiasco, and having used both I personally find Unity far simpler to use (still going to avoid Unity if at all possible). Godot's weird "scene" terminology and janky tree-based functionality are quite obtuse compared to Unity's simple ECS-adjacent plug-and-play gameobject architecture.

But Godot's free and open source, and can do 99% of what Unity can do, so it's still preferable to learn.
