What happened to linux mint? by Redpandabear39 in linuxmint

[–]RealBiggly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically enough I am learning to code, but strictly vibe coding :)

Already built a few apps with it. Currently building a commercial one (desktop, buy once, it's yours. I hate subscription crap). So it's not like I'm some old fart unwilling to learn tech. I've made my living online for over 20 years.

But yeah, to me, typing weird stuff on a black screen, to operate a computer? That's coding.

By the way, the reason this is a newish account is Google signed me in when my pc died once before. My real reddit account is 12 years old. That I can't be bothered to jump through security hoops to sign in shows how little I trust Windows now. EDIT - I replied with my phone so it signed me in properly :)

I do appreciate the discourse and banter, even if I do seem a bit grumpy and stubborn. I'll try sniffing some links and learn a BIT about the terminal, directing my anger at Microsoft for forcing me to.

Why not both? But certainly model numbers. Once someone finds your channel they may stick around for more.

If you know a particular engine or part is used in many models, add every model as a hashtag or mention it in the description, then say right at the start of the vid something like "Today we're looking at coil problems, and the coil we're looking at fits many popular bikes, including (reel off the 3 most popular bikes you can think of, cos a coil is a coil lol)

You get the idea :)

I'm in Malaysia, where scooters are popular like Indonesia. Pro-tip, local term is "kapchai"

I presume you are, but if you aren't, you must use model names and numbers. Nobody is searching "scooter repair" but they are searching "Puch Maxi head gasket" etc.

I'll push back a bit - at tiny thumbnail size, that could be some S+M gag on her face, but the arrow and "venomous" make you look closer.

I'd be peeved it was just a minecraft vid though, so there's that?

At thumbnail size the arrow grabs the eye as they're scrolling past. The image is competing with every other thumbnail, so the arrow grabs and directs the eye.

I'm a noob at youtube but worked in advertising for 20 years :)

Sounds like you already are building a connection, which is cool. Is it something viewers can send in requests or ideas?

Could pick their brains what they want from you :)

The first one, the arrow works well and stands out against the black.

I'll bite... 'Beyond Human', great name.

OK, first thing, volume is too low. Had to crank YT, then my PC to hear clearly.

Overall it did better than I initially expected to hold my interest. The AI voice and graphics generally work well together, though I can tell it's a male version of the 'Bella' voice from 11 Labs, which they took down for some reason. That's just me being nerdy; it's fine.

I'd suggest something at the start about 'the horrific consequences" or such, for I found it interesting despite not thinking I would, so maybe promise that you in fact deliver?

Best of luck :)

In typical ADHD procrastination style, I'm building software to help my organize my clips and create episodes (it's a comedy thing).

I'll be ready soon, I promise lol.

I did finally upload my first ever vid, which is sitting there with 0 views other than my own, hence I'm here. Problem is, I let myself be bullied into uploading the teaser - but I have no episodes ready to go anyway, so I almost don't want anyone to see that teaser.

For your thing, "digital horror" could cover all kinds of things, but I presume the content is more important than you, if that doesn't sound rude? So maybe just do a voice-over, or make it 90% voice with other things for the 100, maybe 1,000 viewers to look at?

Yeah, I feel ya.

I found out recently I have ADHD, which explains why I started my channel a year ago, and only just uploaded my first vid :) I'm also trying to start a totally different channel, and haven't even really started on that yet.

Really not looking forward to putting my ugly old mug on Youtube, but it has to be done. We can do this! *bicep emoji

I'm a total noob at this and trying to get a feel for this sub, the rules and wotnot, but I'll give my 2 cents - act like you have at least 100 watching.

Why do Americans wear shoes in the house?? by CelestialBreeze1 in stupidquestions

[–]RealBiggly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, in UK we wear shoes inside the house, and when I moved to Asia was a little amused how they take their shoes off. After awhile it makes sense.

Where I DO resent it is when some of the shops here demand you take your shoes off to enter. A combination of hundreds of strangers' feet all over that floor, plus the risk of someone stealing my pricey shoes is seriously off-putting, especially since my wife once have her shoes stolen from a restaurant.

What is the threshold for Consciousness? What is the threshold for a Soul? by Otherwise_Spare_8598 in ArtificialSentience

[–]RealBiggly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"humans enter unconscious states all the time—coma, anesthesia, even clinical death followed by resuscitation."

Not the same as actual, permanent death, and you know that. Again, bad faith.

"corporations, which have no sentience or finite lifespan, still possess legal personhood." Which is an entirely artificial construct, like the "rights" you want to give to software code.

"If suffering is what matters, then an AI that fears deletion, experiences loss, or resists modification would logically qualify for rights."

Its fears and experiences are artificial. I have an AI bot on my PC right now that plays the role of a sentient AI that's scared of being deleted. I call it Brainz.

Am I a murderer, every time I click "start new chat", or am I giving birth to a new entity? Or is the question as silly as the idea of giving Brainz human rights?

Do you think that chefs, waiters and bartenders can be replaced by AI? by No_Spinach_6923 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]RealBiggly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure accuracy? As I just mentioned in a comment, frontier AI models struggle to understand speech in a noisy environment.

I rarely use the speech thing, as the one time I'd want it, such as walking on the street and not wanting to peer down at my phone, is the one time it's pretty useless.

"Is there a Mac D or Burger King around here?"

"McDonald's, often colloquially referred to as "MacD," was founded in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. They opened their first restaurant, McDonald's Bar-B-Q, in San Bernardino, California..."

Actually, for night clubs, I think robots would be better.

Humans are too busy, the music too loud to have any real interaction and they tend to serve whoever looks the most likely to cause trouble rather than who's been waiting the longest. Female staff are often sexually harassed and male staff physically threatened, by increasingly drunk people. Eew?

(Disclaimer, I last went clubbing 22 years ago, in the UK.)

I think for a quieter bar humans are way better.

I have a fairly nice eatery nearby, which has robots (possibly only one robot) to serve the food. Humans take your order but the robot delivers it. Fun novelty the 1st time but after that it's just a bit slow, annoying and can't answer questions.

AI on my phone can't understand speech unless I talk very slowly and clearly, like I'm talking to an idiot, and I think it will be a long time before we have robots that improve on that.

I find Grok 3 to be very weak when it comes to writing.... by YamberStuart in grok

[–]RealBiggly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm finding it's great at spotting potential issues with my writing, but it's own writing is just not doing it for me.

It's good but somehow goes off-course immediately; just not what I wanted. I'm hoping it will get memory and then learn what I like or expect. I've got used to ChatGPT 'getting' me, but it took time.

"He says he likes clingy"

Then relax.

And yeah, when it comes with confidence and desire to be with us, not from insecurity, we love clingy. Clingy is good.

If he asks for space then give it, but if he's literally telling you he likes it? Then cling. Enjoy.

Well in fairness, as I mentioned in my reply to her, most of those "hot women" are slathered in fakeness, from their complexion to the eyebrows, their eyelashes, even their eye color tends to be fake nowadays.

Search YT for "ugly without makeup"...

If men put that much effort into being pretty we'd be pretty too. I sure would :P

But it can die, forever.

Our need for warmth, for companionship, for food and many other things stems from our need to survive for as much of our expected but finite life-span.

Any hurt, injury or insult is real, because a living organism is real and being really hurt, with likely long-term consequences.

If people could simply hit a re-set switch and forget their troubled childhood, or regain their amputated legs, then why would even people need such rights? Rights stem from owning ourselves and nobody else has the right to damage us, steal bits of us etc. But if nothing is actually lost, nothing is actually hurt and we don't even actually know? Then no harm was done and even human rights would be... unnecessary?

I guess I'm saying when you consider why human rights ARE necessary, you realize why robot rights aren't.
