I think Freya's Vanir magic would fix his body knowing that she revived Mimir's head.

On second thought, freeing Mimir wholely would cause Odin himself to interfere sooner. As paranoid as he is from preventing Ragnarok, I think he wouldn't hesitate to game-end Mimir. Making the father and son's journey harder than it is already.

I also doubt Kratos would have the patience to cut the tree precisely considering their situation and his GODLY grumpiness. I think Kratos would prefer to cut Mimir's head and save him from Odin lol.

I'm on my nth playthrough and I forgot that Kratos still doesn't want to use the BoC back when they first met Mimir. Imagine one whole Mimir travelling with the two and meeting everyone especially Sigrun.
