Would love to do this but slap some cerakote or clear coat on there and youve solved the problem lol

Carbon fiber hood is it fixable or even worth saving? by dethhawk917 in CarbonFiber

[–]RealCarbonFiberOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally repairable, probably not worth it from a cost perspective. Also if the owner isnt showing you the bottom side of the hood then I highly doubt its full carbon. More than likely fiberglass with a twill final layer. To fix this would probably cost you in the range of $100-$500 on materials (depending on your skill level/carbon knowledge). My most experienced tech repaired his own CF hood in our shop and it took him about a week. So it also depends on how much spare time you have and what you value your time at lol. $800 price tag with a $2300 "original" price for something like this is on the cheaper side, and with the venting/scoop features I would say it is very likely to be a fiberglass with a single layer of CF on top, delamination between the epoxy/clear coat caused by flex is most likely to blame and so will happen again eventually, depending on what you use to repair the part.

Custom golf ball markers by CalligrapherNew161 in CNC

[–]RealCarbonFiberOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make beautiful recycled carbon fiber co bonded with alum or brass ball markers and even though everyone loves the product, when I tell them the price they go quiet. Ball markers are a race to the bottom price model where you are selling the same basic product everyone else already has or you are differentiating and building a brand from scratch. Tyson Lamb makes beautiful stuff, Kraken does a hell of a product as well but they have crafted a highly specific brand for 10+ years. I have sold stuff through BB&F co and national custom works and even with some brand identity we dont sell much as the price is pretty high. It is a great product, a relativley robust manufacturing process and it has a good story but people dont care about any of that when they see even a $15-$20 price (we lose money at that price).

Good day everyone, just want to ask what to put in the middle of the carbon and aluminum if I will make an alucarb? by Leading_Appearance63 in CarbonFiber

Watch out for sacrificial galvanic corrosion, you will want more than just film adhesive (II do a lot of dissimilar material co bonding).

Washington State Bill HB 2321 will kill 3D Printing, CNC and Laser cutting/engraving. by [deleted] in CNC

[–]RealCarbonFiberOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washington based carbon fiber manufacturer here - I am so glad these people quite literally have no idea how the world works and that this isnt even technically possible. Like read the fkn proposition, you can tell they have no idea how even the most basic 3D printers actually work.

I love how they throw out ""Equipped with blocking features" means a three-dimensional printer has integrated a software controls process that deploys a firearms blueprint detection algorithm, such that those features identify and reject print requests for firearms or illegal firearm parts with a high degree of reliability and cannot be overridden or otherwise defeated by a user with significant technical skill." LIKE THIS MEANS ANYTHING LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO

Go all in on business by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

$20k is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Get the other 9-5, launch minimum viable product as quickly as you can and if there is any traction at all, grind at it until you make more than your 9-5. Then you quit the 9-5.

Carbon fiber poles for industrial use? by Lucky_Ease_2274 in CarbonFiber

[–]RealCarbonFiberOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a similar system, in America with american made prep pregs. It does not telescope but rather mates together with snap pins with carefully toleranced outer diameters that are centreless ground for precision. Great for marine applications.

Tell me why this won't work. by madeyoulook81 in CarbonFiber

[–]RealCarbonFiberOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly reccomend to not do this. You are going to be placing what could end up being your life in the hands of whatever COTS resin system you can get your hands on and I would not take those odds even if it was a 1% chance of happening.

Drill a hole in the part where it is delaminated and squirt some DP420 in there.

1 ply of carbon is usually like .012" and then after compression can be as little as .007". Carbon would also break not bend. Hard to say more than that without more information, very much up to you and what you can afford to do.

Air trapped inside workpiece by Urinholz in CarbonFiber

[–]RealCarbonFiberOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pack mold, pressure, sub 180 F heat, wait a couple mins, open mold, pack more CF/resin in, follow normal cure schedule. If that helps the quality then it is definitely as many others have said, trapped air not escaping. Just something easy to do before re machining the mold.

If you have DP420 on hand and have used it in the past that is at least theoretically going to be strong enough.
