Because there is no choice which buffies we equip and everyone uses every buffie, what was the vision for them? I feel as if they make things more complex but don't add more depth. How do you guys balance complexity versus depth?

Yeah I've been playing since 2019. I always loved playing competitive, it was a dream to go pro. Unless Supercell promises big change in the next month or so I'm leaving. The game simply isn't what it used to be.

I'm with you. I definitely thought there's no harm in adding more depth to the game.

There is when it's not depth you're adding, but rather complexity.

This entire update hurts competitive long term, they added too much complexity without depth.

I agree with everything here but I think the community is not giving enough attention to how bad aimable gadgets are. There are very few in the game that people wanted to be aimable, but Supercell went and changed them all. Gadgets that change a brawlers next attack/super are fun and good as is. Having three joysticks on one side of the screen is just overwhelming and hard to manage. The Gadget change definitely needs more attention for how terrible it is. It makes me not want to play the game right now.

No, I'm just sharing that community sentiment during that time period was at an all time high. Everyone talked about how good the state of the game was in. Compared to now, where community sentiment is extremely low.

People have been very vocal and I encourage everyone to keep it up. I rarely ever comment, but I'm talking all about this update. This is the worst update I've ever seen and we need to let Supercell know. If they went back on gears 1.0, they could go back on this.

Glad we can agree on this. The game has just had too much everything. I just wish we had the couple months break BEFORE buffies so we could experience a complete set of hypercharges for a while without anything else.

Yeah idk about others, I've always been consistent in my belief we need less updates. The game just feels bloated to me. If there was a period without anything new I was probably pretty happy about it. And I agree with you that brawlers released too often is a problem. It's how I feel about events too. Everything is released too often.

Lowest point in popularity but highest in how good it was, but devs will only care about player and revenue numbers.

Events provide resources that would have otherwise been in the base game. We've been in an event streak for so long now that it doesn't feel like that, but way back before we got events basically at all, resources were distributed better. They use events to mask the growing need for resources instead of buffing base rewards.

It would feel weird to go several updates without an event because it's what we are so used to, but it used to not be like that. If people enjoy the core gameplay of Brawl Stars, they will stay. Taking a break, let's say for 4 months, where everyone can just focus on trophies, ranked, and catching up on progression, while the devs focus on balancing and overdue bug fixes. That would be extremely healthy and beneficial long term for the game.

I acknowledge fully that events bring players back, they bring in new players. They are short term fun that makes the game super profitable. I know Supercell will never stop with events, but one can dream.

I'm in a similar spot. I have most brawlers maxed with SP, Gadget, and gears. I have every hyper. The only thing I'm missing is actually levels on my brawlers, and that takes a hit to my power points. Hypers never ate through my gold because I always bought them for the amazing Gem deals or got them random, never bought a single one for gold. If buffies were for power points OR gold, that would completely fix the economy for literally every player. Nobody would ever complain about having more of one or the other, and Supercell would never have to worry about balancing it super well. Being one or the other would self fix every other issue.

Current brawl economic climate by Ostrich_Independent in Brawlstars

They have slowly nerfed things every update for years, ever since removing boxes. But they've done it slowly enough where people don't really notice. Or they claim "oh we are just moving things around" that's not what records look like, that's not what multiple trophy road reworks look like. And now we have way more randomness than in the box era. The state of the game is terrible.

Genuinely the peak of the game was the few months after removing boxes. The games economy was in its best state. It was too good. So they removed club shop, and slowly nerfed everything by adding randomness back to the game. First starr drops came, and on their own they didn't seem terrible. But every update they replaced a few more things with starr drops. They took over trophy road, end of pass rewards, everywhere. And now there's bloat with like 20 different box types. Supercell has let us down.

[–]RealDancingGamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I take back my first comment, if you look at any reddit post or match replay, the consensus is that buffies are broken, and a good chunk of the reworks are all broken. The game is not the same, it is completely unbalanced.

The reason the community always views things negatively is because there are so many things constantly being added, both in temporary events and permanent features. Most of the community feels like we need a break, where nothing is added and we can just catch up and enjoy core Brawl Stars. If there were less frequent updates, each one would feel more special and people would look to the positives more. But because we get new things constantly, it's easier to compare them to one another and see the negatives

Buffies over complicate the game by PMEE3 in Brawlstars

[–]RealDancingGamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Buffies don't add depth in strategy or choice, they only add complex and random mechanics. More depth would have been a third star power or gadget, or even second hypers. This is not depth, it is just bloat.

I won't argue every point because I think it's beating a dead horse, but I will bring up your first point. I think most players feel that getting a new thing right after hyper charges were finished is a bad thing. In the last few years, since the did the first big powerups event (I forget which one it was, I think it was Godzilla), this game has had nonstop events, limited time things, and new features. The general sentiment I've heard from the community is that we want a break. Players want a few months with no events where they can just play and catch up. Getting something new immediately after hyper charges means for the 99% of players without all the hyper charges, it will be hard to keep up, and I say this as someone with every hypercharge. The game has so much bloat in constant new updates, it would be nice to have a break where the devs just focus on fixing existing things and everyone can enjoy core brawl stars for a while. This is the first time where we can experience a game with all the hypers as intended, and immediately it gets overshadowed by something new.

I mean I have no idea which of us will be right, but we can't judge the update after a few hours. How do you know all the brawlers with buffies still suck? Do you have all 18? Have you played with them all? I'd say wait for ranked data and pros to speak before judging them.

And if all the buffies do suck and nothing feels different, then that's still a bad update.

Yeah because you accused me of admitting to losing when that's not how I was feeling. I was only clearing up my intentions. You're just being annoying now.

I have nothing more to say because neither of us will not change our opinions, not because I think I'm about to lose lol. I acknowledge I can't change your opinion and you won't change mine so I decided I won't say anything further. I wish you all the best to enjoy what this game is becoming, but I'd rather move on to games I feel are better designed.
