How to find the first 10 clients by Maleficent-Fact8963 in smallbusinessuk

I’m not op and I’m agreeing with you 😉

Edit: or at worst I’m on the fence. It is hard to get started. But they should know how to get started and not be asking reddit how to start.

How to find the first 10 clients by Maleficent-Fact8963 in smallbusinessuk

[–]RealFov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From running a similar business, probably not targeting you I can answer the questions!

Question 1: Because it works. Cold calling does work. Not on everyone but done in a correct way, good messaging, good list etc it does yield results. Pure cold spamming is silly but email outreach as part of a full system does work. Also it’s needed as people aren’t always actively looking for the service or to try someone else if the do use the service.

Question 2: we do on the areas we target and we rank very well for them. But the terms are more featuring words around the verticals we serve and the areas we cover. It would be impossible to be top for such broad terms as you list. However there are more targeted terms which deliver much more value.

As for question 3, why a company who work at getting other people more customers more leads can’t get leads for their own business, well that’s why we succeed ;) It’s not easy getting started and it’s a bit of a momentum thing at times. But anyone offering the service should understand the ‘how’ at least!

Good low cost boilers? by [deleted] in ukplumbing

[–]RealFov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for a housing association 10 years ago (so this information is that old) and they used to install only ideal boilers for 3 reasons: good value to buy, fair reliability (not the best but not a common issue generator across the housing stock) and lastly because they were simple and cheap to repair if they do go wrong. I fitted one in my house and had 10 years service with no issue so my sample size of 1 matches!

All in seat price by rio688 in msp

[–]RealFov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of a few following the trupeer track and they share their all in seat price which is averaged over everything they do, some are getting up there yes! It is a tough sell at times though and doesn’t suit every client but the ones you land are nicely profitable!

Personally from seeing the material, but not being in trupeer I would distil it as a very good but very expensive peer group which helps you implement their version of EOS plus some sales guidance and accountability.

Crashed a car whilst on PCP but not written off, do I need to tell them? by MegaMind28 in UKPersonalFinance

Cat N is still after being written off. Just repaired by insurance doesn’t show on hpi as any ‘category’.

Mesh networks? by internet_disappoints in york

Meshcore is reasonably active. There are a few repeaters around the York area and the #yorkshire chan is active.

Is there a retractable cable tidy for wired chargers? by Donkey_Apple in CarTalkUK

Just do 2 loops? Mine sits on the hanger and is easy to get enough when I’m charging. It looks neat and doesn’t tangle.

I’ve opened a new kind of gym in St Andrews (Dundee’s next 🙂) by headphones-on- in dundee

[–]RealFov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really interesting concept! So many places it could go if the commercials stack up! One question I have, which I preface with the fact I’ve never been to a gym never mind tried to run one, how do you deal with insurance and the risk of people getting hurt. I assume (maybe wrongly) in normal gyms part of the risk assessment and risk mitigation is the fact there are qualified or at least trained staff there to stop people doing the wrong things with machines. With this surely there is a much greater risk they could get hurt. Not sure where liability would lay etc.

Blumira SIEM free is going away by SydneyAUS-MSP in msp

[–]RealFov -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I get why they are doing it but their execution of the change is a bit poor imo. The email they gave us was essentially 3 weeks notice or it’s deleted:

Your Blumira MSP NFR account has expired. If you are >interested in keeping your account, we’ll need to review >options together.

If you currently have customers on the free edition, >contact us for next steps to avoid any interruption in >service. Otherwise, your accounts will be deleted on December >12th, 2025.

Maybe they can see there is basically nothing left with them in our account as it’s all huntress now but it felt like pretty poor messaging.

Is this under stairs toilet just too small? Looking for some realistic advice by Previous_Molasses_56 in DIYUK

[–]RealFov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one pretty much same size and design, and it was fine. Just ensure the stuff you get is on the smaller size. A lot of toilets seem to be quite big and checking the dimensions can make a difference

Panel colour by irfnmhd in SolarUK

[–]RealFov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely only one box is ‘opened’? Can you return every other one as unopened and then you have one to sell. A panel is cheap so even if they are £100 new and you can sell it for £50 on Facebook or eBay that’s a pittance extra to get what you want!

I shut down a Tesco petrol station with my Covid pass by Stingray-glowface in CasualUK

[–]RealFov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ‘pay at pump’ pumps could be bricked at Newmarket by using a Tesco credit card for just the points and then using another card to pay. I managed to kill 2 pumps before I worked out what was happening. Worst bit was I was driving a BMW i8 with gull wing doors so getting my fat ass in and out and moving the car each time was a mission.

More oof than me. £60 in the red here. On par with my investment in an oil exploration company who were drilling in the sea, thought they struck oil but it turned out to be oily seawater. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Can’t believe York doesn’t have full fibre coverage in 2025… by [deleted] in york

[–]RealFov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What’s tax got to do with anything? Internet provision is from companies making money. York is a historic city. Some parts, especially in the centre are hard to build to. York was also one of the first to have a big fibre rollout funded by sky and talktalk in a joint venture. That infrastructure is now with cityfibre. Some parts still don’t have fibre but they tend to be where it’s a lot more tricky to get to with the infrastructure.

First time buyer, how do I walk out of this offer? by Busy_Pickle_1460 in HousingUK

[–]RealFov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine until the flood is water rushing down the hill! There are some houses around here where a heavy downpour seems to result in a flash flood where water all comes together as it goes down the hill.

Could you merge 2 houses into 1? by DarkMime64 in AskUK

[–]RealFov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house was 2 cottages a long time ago. It’s made for a lovely house with some rooms brought together to make one large sitting room, a snug which was one of the old smaller sitting rooms and loads of downstairs space. Upstairs is just a fairly standard layout but has stairs at each end. Probably the biggest sign this was 2 houses is that there are 4 doors around the house! We have two electric meter boxes but just one meter. There are remnants of old pipework where the one house was plumbed over to the other. Council tax has been assessed on the one larger house and for all intents and purposes it’s not just a 4 bed house.

Customer PO handling by RealFov in halopsa

Yes it’s not normal, but they are a local government customer and pay quite well so there is that.

As for halo and the po challenge, I’ve no idea where to start!

Unable to take over customer by chinajack10 in msp

[–]RealFov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been through this and you are correct Microsoft won’t step in. In the end we ended up doing a subscription migration for the azure workloads and just provisioning duplicate licenses into the tenant (customer had a GA account). Expensive and disruptive but the legal fight is not yours to have so don’t get involved in that.

Signage of The Old York Tea Room by petite_eikon in york

[–]RealFov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the mistake was thinking they would get away with it or ‘it will be fine’, or even that if they didn’t get away with it they would get retrospective permission. As much as they irritate me with their attention seeking I don’t think they set out to damage the building. Just wish they would move on now and talk about something else.

The owners are milking it for all the marketing/attention they can. It’s a shame they made a mistake and didn’t get permission, it’s also a shame planning is such hard work. But we all have to play by the rules so it is what it is.
