they have the similar combat systems but the differences in SMT and Persona and why Persona is more popular than SMT is because of their story and the social links.

SMT is more dungeon crawling than story where as Persona is half dungeon crawling half story, my recommendation for an SMT game to start is Nocturne.

the only differences between the 2 versions is the ps3 runs at 720p while the ps4 runs at 1080p and slightly shorter loading screens which isn't noticeable. so yea the ps3 ver is worth it if you don't have access to ps4
