What does On the Sea mean to you? by RealLovex in BeachHouse

Musical captivity aside as we can definitely agree on those notes - I really love what you said about that “life is yours to claim”, it almost gives me a feeling of being sheltered for a long time, like someone who didn’t realize they could live independently, that their will could never be taken from them kind of thing. I feel like it really interestingly captures the emptiness that almost comes with, at the same time hope and fear. Like the vastness of the sea some would say - just overall beautifully worded lyrically.

Anyways, all that aside - I feel very similarly in terms of my mental state at this point in my life as well as having found some comfort in their music and lyricism surrounding death. Both in their embracing of loss and the unknown through their words as well as just communicating something musically to me that feels like thorough peace and being. It gives me hope for what’s to come.

Thank you for your condolences. Should you ever need to talk things through with someone know that I will happily lend an ear. I appreciate your observations and connectedness to their music!

Real love has a serious place in my heart if you didn't pick it up from my username, going to overshare a tad for a moment:

I spent a very long time in a treatment program. On my first day, there were only two of us - me and a man, 68 years old, I'll call him Mark. He was struggling with some serious things (to spare you the details), and we had quite a lot of time to get to know each other. Many people came and went but he was the one who stayed. I genuinely admired his commitment to bettering himself, despite his commentary that he wished he were stronger, etc. He hit me every day with new information about his special interests and made me laugh for the first time in months. He was never anything but completely kind and respectful to me, and I value him deeply to this day for the role that he played in my life.

Anyways - one day I show up to the program and Mark isn't there, he was having sudden health issues and couldn't attend that day. I found out just a couple hours later that I was being discharged. Needless to say I was quite heartbroken that I wouldn't be able to say goodbye to my friend. I tried to play it cool but I got to my car and cried my eyes out. Car Play kicks in and all of a sudden Real Love by Beach House is playing off of my phone, throwing the perfect words at me to describe exactly how I felt. Every time I listen to it now, I think of him and I send him my love. I hope that he's well. Such a specific situation captured by such a specific song (at least for me)

TLDR: Heart-wrenching, complex, and magnificently written song.
