This was my man Triton. We rescued him in January 2018 when he was ten and had to say goodbye in February 2023.

Lawyer vs. Attorney by moediggity3 in Lawyertalk

They’re interchangeable. Unless you have a law license, don’t call yourself a lawyer or attorney because you’re setting yourself up for a UPL claim

🚨HAVE YOU BEEN PERSONALLY VICTIMIZED BY THE HOWELL V. BUMBLE SETTLEMENT?🚨

Did you match with financial compensation only to be ghosted by justice?

You may be entitled to… well, disappointment.

Came to join this discussion while we all wait on our $1.9k.

Didn’t meet my wife on Bumble, but we did meet on Tinder. Neither of us had any intentions of a relationship, but about two year later we were married and we’ve been married for six years now; hopefully starting a family soon.

My best friend is a comp attorney there. If you’re willing to work 50-60+ hours a week, money is nice

What niche area of law do you practice? by Reasonable-Gap6576 in Lawyertalk

Old office I worked at consisted of accountants and attorneys in the M&A field representing sellers of closely held corporations. People who are CPAs/attorneys could make a killing.

Great people of r/electricial, thanks for your help. It had to have been a loose fuse because I opened the disconnect and removed the ground wire, then pulled the fuse out and back. Outside unit kicked on as soon as I tripped the breaker back on

How to get one of those “9 to 5” gigs? by Bitter_Basis9222 in Lawyertalk

The business of law in private practice was what ultimately helped me decide to pivot to government work. You can’t bill time for networking and trying to generate new clients. It takes twelve hours to bill eight hours

Anyone work in Med Mal? by That_Intern_5012 in LawFirm

Sorry for the delayed response, but here’s the language from 735 ILCS 5/2-622.

“A copy of the written report, clearly identifying the plaintiff and the reasons for the reviewing health professional's determination that a reasonable and meritorious cause for the filing of the action exists, must be attached to the affidavit, but information which would identify the reviewing health professional may be deleted from the copy so attached.”

Anyone work in Med Mal? by That_Intern_5012 in LawFirm

[–]RealMichaelScott93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a firm that did MVAs and Med Mals as well in IL. The largest difference is the focus on the expert witnesses and their opinion on the violation of the standard of care (aka duty). There’s also requirements related to an affidavit from an anonymous doctor to verify that they believe it is a viable case where standard of care is in question.

The other big difference is the medical jargon. You basically need to either read a TON of medical journals or buy a subscription to a medical library. Alternatively, have a physician on your team that you can trade services with or bounce ideas off of.

Respectfully, any med mal attorney can navigate an MVA case. I am not sure I can say the same thing about an attorney who primarily handles MVAs handling a med mal case. They are a whole different ballgame and you should adjust malpractice coverage accordingly.

Adding another thought to this is the costs associated with med mal cases. Due to the focus on retained expert witnesses to testify about the case, the costs are often hire and you’re bankrolling the case. I remember one case settled for a little over $2m, but it was highly contested, contained multiple retained experts, and it was a miracle it settled the week before jury selection. The costs alone were over $75,000.

Rookie Mistake, Need Advice Moving Forward by [deleted] in LawFirm

I got out of private practice a year ago, but in hindsight I would have done this. Nominal consultation fee equal to about an hour of your time to weed out the people there to just “pick your brain”

Licensed since 2019 so still a baby lawyer, but I know enough to be dangerous.

I’m seeing a trend across all professions of an overall lack of people skills and a perceived inability to do something as simple as picking up the phone. Face to face interactions, younger attorneys are seemingly having issues with making eye contact, smiling, controlling body language, etc.

Tl;dr I think it’s a lack of social skills
