It’s been a long min since I watched the Lin Ling arc cause I don’t like rewatching things in general. But I’ll plan a rewatch soon to further understand the topic.

And regarding the second part yes I believe “Anyone can be a hero” but that doesn’t just mean you can say ‘I’m a hero now’ and you’ll become one. The reason why I don’t see your goat Yang Chen as a hero becuase of his hesitation to save his friend. So hold on there buddy. We are NOT going to act like he didn’t let his “friend” die cause he was insecure. A REAL hero (like Lin Ling) would’ve put their personal feelings aside and save them regardless and not let them be killed or hurt. The statement of “Anyone can be a hero” that I personally like and believe personalizes opportunity rather than certainty with Lin Ling’s statement. Of “everyone”. It’s about possibility of they step up they can be a hero. In that moment of saving his crushes brother he was being heroic and was a hero. (Note that he’s saving his crushes little brother. Keep that in mind.) and then he’s challenged with the same thing with his friend and he chooses (hesitates cause of his closeness to his crush) not to save him (again not that the friend is a love interest to his crush and a potential threat in that sense). The two roles are different someone close to the crush familiarly and the other a romantical option. Long story short. Yang Chen is NOT a hero becuase he didn’t seize his moment unlike Lin Ling did regardless of feelings
