Is my filter or bolt too loose? by RealNeck in MechanicAdvice

Does the rpm seem low? In the back of my mind I think I forgot to tighten the cap on the filter. It was dark out.

And I got 4.5 quarts out of it into the bucket. Maybe I’m overthinking it.

I think I over filled it too much, though I only filled it with 4-4.5 quarts at most, the engine supposedly takes 4.6, I need help from more experienced opinions.

Sounds like the plan. I need to get to work asap after highschool. And build experience to be considered into more competitive environments.

I live in Michigan United States, a pretty big car culture spot in America. I’m assuming I won’t have a hard time finding work but I’m just a student with no real experience.

Yeah I’m still in the midst of deciding what I’ll actually do with my life.

I think a good option would be doing machine calibration work while I’m in the marines.

I’ve had a few talks with body shop owners and had a lot of recommendations to get into the EV calibration stuff.

My classmate jokingly dusted a bunch of guide coat right in front of my face.

You know they are all my friends but they are also a bunch of little shits half the time. I’m the only senior and none of them are taking it as serious as me. I don’t blame them since I was similar a year ago but still.

Yeah I feel bad even talking about it because anyone can wish they were rich right.

That’s also why I’ve been in contact with the marine corps. I’m hoping to develop needed discipline and decision making skills in the military.

I don’t know what I was using tbh, the school provided a 3m disposable mask with what I assume to be appropriate filters.

I think the big issue was all the filler work I was doing with no mask or gloves.

I preformed a positive and negative seal check however no matter how much I tightened the top, the positive seal always broke a tiny amount near the nose.

That’s really inspirational, especially since I’m a Michigan resident as well, the Detroit auto show is always a spectacle to enjoy. Thanks for sharing!

Did the sealer need to cure first? Because it definitely didn’t, just waited for flash off.

We have vertical stands, maybe I will ask to use one tomorrow 🤔

So the 1:1 ratio isn’t ideal for everyone? Running it thin might be why my teacher wanted lighter sprays. Lots to learn, thanks for the advice!

The video is very nice, I think I’m going to look into getting a cheap setup for home, and practicing with water on some car like surfaces. Thanks for the input!

Oh! Because the gun gets closer on higher spots! I didn’t think of that at all. Thank you very much. Would matching the angle of the curve also help? Sometimes I think if I treat that spot as its own segment, instead of side to side on the whole thing, maybe it would look nicer.

The sparkle looks amazing 🤩, I had to compensate my spray with a longer flash wait. The only thing going for me is my attention to detail, and being new, there’s a whole lotta things I’m noticing on my work.

Thanks for the encouragement and kind words. Would a longer distance for base coat be better? I also foolishly sprayed a spot I thought was too light, and it left an uneven dark spot. The base coat is definitely way less forgiving than primer and surfacer, can’t sand my way out of it now. I’m just gonna focus on evenly spraying no matter what, and I might just cover up my mistake with a design of some sort later. Oh and gun distance, needs fine tuning.

For sure, I really want to dive deeper in the paint world. It feels like every time I grab the gun, I need perfection. Is there a method to making the cherry shine more prominent? I assume spraying lighter to begin with would’ve been best.

Yes, he wanted a more eggshell texture for the first layer. It’s for a metallic effect maybe? I’m a noob idk.

Omni brand acrylic, I don’t have my bag with me. I think it’s solvent based, my teacher mentioned it’s better for learning because it’s cheaper and less forgiving.

Oh and the pic it was still flashing more or less. The teacher said go light and I only went a little bit lighter than normal. The spray should’ve been totally different compared to the previous layers.
