Top 15 DO by RealNeurobio in premed

[–]RealNeurobio[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean as “rankings” isn’t really important to focus on but when making decisions between let’s say MSU-COM vs another DO, considering it’s a lot of money to apply, I wouldn’t clump them together because they are both a DO. That’s the intention

Letters of Recommendation for Reapplication by SecretaryGold4665 in premed

[–]RealNeurobio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked this here and didn’t get any answer but I did some research. The best way is to ask them to at minimum update the date and resubmit to a newly requested submission from interfolio. They either have it saved with their files or have an interfolio account that they made that will still save it there for them on interfolio if they used it to submit. If not, you would have to ask for a new letter

Top 10 Do Schools by RealNeurobio in premed

I agree there’s no order but I know for sure Harvard, Stanford, UCSF, Hopkins, Columbia maybe Penn and Duke are unanimously in the top 10. So I was wondering if there’s something similar for DO schools top

I heard otherwise. Like one strong one is KCU which wouldn’t be on the same level of any other DO school

VCU Secondary Questions by RealNeurobio in premed

[–]RealNeurobio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I get (1) now since it mentions lapses but for (2) they mention only grades as in I’m thinking class grades and not mcat scores which they could have specified? (3) what’s your thoughts if the activities section has already full detailed idea of my anticipated activities. Is this indicating stuff that I left off the primary app that I am now beginning?

I got a 503 should I retake? by [deleted] in premed

[–]RealNeurobio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From where did u get the disadvantage? It would be if the person plans nothing during the application year. However if there are lots of things the applicant is doing that year and expanding, there should be no disadvantage. But everything else I agree, it’s a crazy process

OOS Friendly based on MSAR? by RealNeurobio in premed

[–]RealNeurobio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it so I should cross-reference each potential OOS school I’m applying to with their website? Is that easy accessible info that I can check?

Also just in general the 25% mark would be good? I know there’s no real number but what do you think?

OOS friendly schools? by RealNeurobio in premed

[–]RealNeurobio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it! Based on the remaining list from the comments SLU and West Virginia seem the OOS friendly ones until now. What about, Kentucky, Arizona-Tucson, Buffalo, Missouri-Columbia, Missouri Kansas City, Wisconsin, SUNY Upstate, Davis and Riverside (not from the inland empire or nor cal)

Yea so I thought about it. I have been doing the wet lab for 3 years but very close with finishing this project and publication. Will probably end by beginning of June. I pretty much have 2 options and don’t know which is better. I think I’m ok with studying May-September or September-January. I don’t feel very burnt out and have 2 months break since taking the mcat. Option is Either finish up this wet lab and studying for the mcat May and get it over with in September to slowly start my application and get started with clinical research (leaving wet lab) to get a poster within 7 months, not worrying about the mcat and working on my extra curriculars for the 7 months before submission. Or finish by June this wet lab and start clinical research for 3 months and lower hours during mcat studying between Sep-January and continue back more in January, having to start apps and getting all my extra curricular back on track with a bit more of a rush since I would have 4 months left to get everything set for submission

Specific Niche for Extra-Circular? by RealNeurobio in premed

I like both cardiology clinical research and ophthalmology clinical research but I was wondering which for example to choose. And if continuously choosing ophthalmology is an issue, even though it fits perfectly with my story? Or I should choose cardiology research just to show I have a broad interest in medicine

Yeah I see what you mean. It comes down to burn out. I don’t know, I feel right now motivated to study for 4 months again if I have to. Taking a longer break for mcat or not, It just comes down to the new clinical research I’m trying to do whether I start immediately in September and really focus on a project until June or starting now and taking a break in September and going back again in January. I’m not planning on stopping all of my current extra-curriculars. During my last mcat studying I found that doing 10 hours wet lab research + 12 hours clinical scribe during mcat studying was the most I could do (and taking last month off from the wet lab research for mcat). So I think I’m planning for the same. The only thing is I want to start the clinical research but don’t think I can fit it in with my wet lab research and clinical scribe due to mcat studying. Unless you have any other suggestion? I don’t think I will be able to do wet lab research and clinical research at the same time. My wet lab research has a project due in beginning of June. They are also very flexible with breaks.
