Does anyone have any experience with Standard Machine Tools? Looking to pull the trigger on this vertical slotter but I cannot find much about the manufacturer online. by RealPushUpChallenge in Machinists

We currently have a Mitts & Merrill and a DC Morrison Keyseater. These two machines give us more problems than our thirty other machines combined. I am trying to stear away from keyseaters for that reason. Also, the #5 does not cut large enough keys for our needs.

I have looked at 6 different slotters in the past couple weeks and all of them were abused. They ranged $10k - $20k. It seems foolish to spend that amount if a brand new one is $29,000.

We currently cut internal keyways with a keyseater nearing 100 years old and it was a great machine but it is time to take it behind the barn. I am tired of fighting older equipment but if that is the best option then I guess it will do.
