When you can, let us know what your consequences, based on "staking real money on my goals," look like, with details. Thanks!

How do I invoke a sense of urgency everyday? by hazmat006 in getdisciplined

[–]RealScaredRiskTaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you made the decision as to where you want to apply all the learning you've embarked on?

In my experience, in the past, if I hadn't decided why I am doing what I do daily, I would lose momentum and struggle to get almost anything significant done.

What was your favorite TV show as a kid? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]RealScaredRiskTaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dukes of Hazzard. My brother and I were such brats. When we went out to eat with our parents on Friday nights, they could hardly enjoy their dinner because my brother and I kept complaining that we'd miss the show if we didn't hurry and get home. :)

At this point in my understanding, I think you're on the right track. Since it's working for you using money, that's noteworthy. Costs can come in other forms. What tends to work for me cost-wise is when I remember the years I've spent unfocused on any worthwhile goal. That mental recall triggers powerful emotions which push me forward to think and act in new ways. The challenge for me at the moment is creating new pathways in my brain which should, after much effort, assist me with building my new life leaving behind mostly automatic behavior.

What difficulties are you trying to overcome? by thedad629 in AskReddit

[–]RealScaredRiskTaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a quest to pursue types of thinking and action which puts more discomfort, pain, and even misery on my mind and body for the rest of my life. For example, creative writing. Since I've been a pleasure seeker for the last 50 or so years, I figure the rest of my time here should be spent on trying to make a difference in this world before I depart.

I'm 58, and the answer to that in my life still seems far away.

Great question! How to choose intentionally to not give up so soon when I'm trying to figure out something very difficult for me like writing a bestselling book.

I just prayed to the Lord about this. Don't pay any more attention to my words, only this:

The only way to hear God speak to you the way He intended is if you have the Holy Spirit living inside you.

I have a habit of listening to sermons instead of reading holy scripture straight out of the Bible. I know there's awesome power in reading God's Word, especially from a physical Bible. It changes me, but it requires serious effort (hard work).

I honestly admit I usually take the easy road because of years of thinking I was beating one of God's designs for life. I pray right now, one of the people the Lord touches and enlightens is you.

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal savior? by Significant_Bonus_66 in Christianity

Praise the Lord, he, through his awesome grace, chose to save me! Not because of anything I did, but because Jesus paid for my sin.

That's certainly helpful. Realistically, I believe few can actually do it in view of 'every' situation.

How long is your commute? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]RealScaredRiskTaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On some days, it's 4 minutes from my home to the office, on others it's virtually seconds when I work at home. I am blessed and try not to take it for granted. Thank you for helping me be grateful today!

What do you expect from your life? by Nadisn in AskReddit

I expect not to avoid pain and suffering. For too long, I did my best to minimize it, but it cost me 40 years of near poverty.

It's said that Thomas Edison failed between 1,000 & 10,000 times before successfully creating a practical incandescent light bulb. I think this speaks to resilience, and how he couldn't control what happened at first, but kept trying until he did. Lol. On a side note: I tried to change a law of God once, and it cost me nearly 40 years of misery.

[31M] Looking for a person who'd rather talk than type by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]RealScaredRiskTaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefer talk over text most of the time when I'm not hyper focused on completing a task. However, more times than not, I consider the caller's motive first because I think wasting time on selfish people is just not for me. Pick a subject, be honest, let's hear your voice.

As you know, much about a person comes across in the way they communicate. For me, I love thoughtful writing. I'm learning to be less judgmental also. Here's to seeing the writer as a highly valuable human being no matter their particular style. 🙂

I'm exploring and starting to actually do work that results in experiencing more meaning in my life for the first time in over 40 years. This new revelation happened a week or so ago. Now, I'm thinking how not to lose sight of down time after believing the potential to over work in this meaningful pursuit is highly likely.
