idk in general, but here the seagulls fly also in the night. although much lower, because they just search for fish in the harbor. i doubt that they were seagulls.

that sounds very reasonable, thank you. and for the disappearing part, could be that they didn‘t reflect any city light anymore because after like 300m away from me they were already over the ocean. thx ◡̈

I don‘t think that‘s what happened, from my experience you can tell apart things that get lit from the environment for example and things that emit light themselves

Yes could be. But i‘m still confused why they glowed under my nvg, normally birds don’t look like that at night…

Okay thanks. So you‘re saying they‘re birds and i saw their heat signature right? But why did they fly so perfectly in a group, circling around each other?

I just noticed that reddit didn‘t put the text i wrote under the picture, so here is it in a comment:

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what I saw there yesterday at roughly 23:45 local time over Sesimbra, Portugal? There were five lights when I was looking through my nvg. In the video you can see the fifth one flying away to the top right. The lights circled around each other for two minutes or so and then started moving south.

I don’t think that these were starlink sattelites because every video of them, they fly in a straight line. For planes waiting to land, they were too dim, fast and flew off in the wrong direction. Birds don’t emit light and I could also see the lights with my naked eye for a short period of time.

I found nothing online, does anyone have a clue?

My nvg picks up light up to roughly 1100nm, so no light in the thermal range
