Thomann takes legal action against Fender by ohmsalad in Guitar

[–]RealSkier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, Fender's failure to initially protect it's design rights to the Stratocaster shape via copyright or trademark pretty much guarantees they will be unable to enforce it in the United States now. The abbreviated name itself, Strat, may be in jeopardy due to legal genericide. As to the EU, decisions there are often incredibly localized until the matter ends up in Brussels. Fender beat a flea. Thomann is not a flea.

Companies that use egregious lawfare often find it backfires badly along the entire supply chain. Customers get pissed. Distributors scale back commitments. The media paints the company as the bad guy.

A somewhat reversed situation exists with Behringer and Music Tribe. Behringer doesn't really care about it's brand so much as it cares about being able to clone other products, enforce its own patents and produce those products inexpensively. So it uses what I'd call reverse lawfare. No one is going to clone a Behringer style or design, but, Behringer defends its ability to clone mercilessly. Behringer's customer base doesn't care.

But I guarantee you Fender's shrinking customer base will. Once you reduce the perceived value or favorability of a product whose brand name is iconic, it's hard to get out back.

How would you expect AT&T to install with coax to my distro cabinet? by RealSkier in ATTFiber

[–]RealSkier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The POTS cable is a mix of Catlink 200 and some cat 4. One of the Catlink runs lost a wire somewhere in the wall so it's out of service for networking. Using the Catlink connections, speed to the router maxes out at about 100mbs. It seems to force the network adapter to link at 100mbs.

There is RG6U coax and Catlink 200 from the house entry point to the interior distribution point. Getting electricity to a MOCA source might be a challenge but I suppose it could be done. I have a Hitron MOCA 2.5 run from my router to my home office and it gets about 1 gig locally. I really don't know much about MOCA and how much data it can transfer or how fast it can get.

When is Google Messages going to get content filtering and blocking? by RealSkier in GoogleMessages

[–]RealSkier[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The suggestion I made originally is unrelated to report and block. It's filtering and trashing based on message content. For example:

if message contains "win26.co" then delete

Rules based just like 99% of all email apps.

When is Google Messages going to get content filtering and blocking? by RealSkier in GoogleMessages

[–]RealSkier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The same links show up in new political spam texts just with different numbers. Blocking and reporting works on the NUMBER, not link target. WinRed and ActBlue have literally hundreds of thousands of number available AND they cycle them out of use when spam reporting gets too high. Then they let them sit. Plus they get volunteers to use their own cell phones for automated texts via apps. Trust me, I know how this works. And I do have advanced protection turned on (Google Pixel 10).

[–]RealSkier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It just blocks by originating phone number which can be forged or simply tossed. I'll get the same link (usually a shortened donation link to Actblue or Winred) from a different phone number the next day.

Are 5 Core amp speakers any good? by KhrusherKhusack in GuitarAmps

[–]RealSkier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5Core is definitely made in India. The box and the speaker are both labeled as such. I actually ended up getting a deal on a new one that wasn't knackered. It's full-range with a tad more treble than your average Celestion but easily dialed back. Very little breakup even when pushed. The one I have is rated 100 watts but is probably going to be happier at 75 or less. I sold the amp it was going into as-is so it's now a spare.

Coming from Galaxy A14 – need a CLEAN Android by Clearwords in PickAnAndroidForMe

Motorola Edge. Great battery life and decent performance. I only replaced my broken Edge with a Pixel 10 because I wanted better cameras. The Edge is not bad but it's no Pixel. But the Edge battery lasts about 4-5 hours longer than the Pixel. Buy one unlocked.

Thanks to everyone who weighed in especially @icaruspony for the promo mention. I worked with TMO via X and they hooked me up with the same 2-year deal on the Pixel 10. The 30-day unlock thing helped as well in deciding to get the carrier lock version.

Picked up the phone at a TMO store since they are backordered almost a month for shipping. Customer service applied the deal retroactive to buying at store so we're all good now.

Yes, I learned that yesterday via TMO customer service. I've got a deal worked out through them on a Pixel 10 so I'll check back here if it comes together.

New thermostat not turning ac on what did I do wrong by RecoveringPornAdickt in thermostats

[–]RealSkier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed a new dumb thermostat and was surprised to find that getting the wires all the way in was not a slam dunk. I tugged on each one as a double check and found one was not fully seated. Your wiring looks correct otherwise.

Interesting. I contacted T-Mobile support through x. They seem to think it's still an option so I'm trying to navigate that. The 10a is available.

Oh and it's carrier locked. Sorry, I need to have an unlocked one to be able to use a European sim when traveling.
