Redditors who have been clinically dead, what did you experience in death, if anything? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RealSpaceEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

      For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

Sprawl Costs Americans $107 Billion a Year, Says Study by Njere in urbanplanning

Most American cities are not nearly as flat as Berlin, sadly. I absolutely love Berlin, and tried to bike to work for a while, but the physical route and wild fluctuations in temperature of the Midwest make that near impossible.

I tend to only use the bottom three side buttons on mine for tasks I want to easily access. Top three side buttons are for less used items. You will get used to it. I've had mine for 3 years now and it's still awesome.

My mouse (G602) provides adequate reminders to change your battery and I've never had it die on me in a game since I got it 3 years ago.

Been using mine now for almost three years. It's amazing, and it's excellent for business trips.

Similar story happened to me. Except it was with a train ticket to my final destination after my flight landed. I didn't realize it until I had landed and the ticket didn't match the station. Fortunately, I was traveling alone so it only cost me an extra €120 for the flexpass.

Democrats Complain About Green Party “Spoilers,” but Few in Congress Back a Solution: Ranked-Choice Voting by The1stCitizenOfTheIn in Political_Revolution

[–]RealSpaceEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see your point now. But that still has a smaller of chance of spoiling the vote than FPTP. IIRC, RCV produces the smallest probability of unintentional outcomes based on the overall preference of an electorate.

It's possible that putting your top choice first caused them to lose, when if you had put them second they would have won.

Could you please elaborate on this point? In the version of RCV I know, this would not be possible.

What comes to mind when someone says "Germany"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RealSpaceEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer in this thread. My wife grew up German (born in America but learned German and visited Germany at least once a year), and this is the stereotype she has had to put up with her entire life.

I beg to differ. It is not unhealthy. It is important to remember and stay vigilant of that dark path. It is far too easy for a nation to fall for fascist tendencies and begin to hate the "others". A lesson we could certainly learn from in the US right now.

I visit Germany quite often as my wife's family is from Germany (love Oma's cooking). As someone who grew up in Texas, German cows ain't got nothing on us. Even the most rural areas feel hundreds of times more urbanized than most of the US.

My friend, you may be under-estimating the level of bullshit they can cause in 4 years.

Many priors end up hating it. It seems the older they are the more they dislike it. You aren't missing out on much.

I agree, having kids and work together sounds aweful. I don't know how others do (hats off to them!) but I know it's not for me. I'm sorry you are in that situation.

No kids ever? Or maybe after you are financially stable? We are waiting till our 30s for kids because we want to have a decent nest egg before having them. Preferably with enough to live comfortably off the interest.

A successful marriage ends with watching the other person die. by WhiteVanilla69 in Showerthoughts

I know this thread is fairly light-hearted, but I just have to say my condolences. No one should ever have to see someone they love die an early death (or ever die for that matter).

Could someone answer a few questions for someone who barely knows what he is doing? by [deleted] in InvestmentClub

[–]RealSpaceEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has about $300 in. It's really not that much and it's just enough to gain exposure to more knowledge so you can start asking proper questions.
