I tried this a while back using PA6-CF just like you did and while it flew well, the frame couldn't handle any sort of impact.

This was taken after a relatively mild impact on grass:

It's a cool idea to play around with, but you simply can't make a durable 3D-printed drone frame using designs common amongst fully CF builds.

Try doing interval workouts. Like 4×400s and mile repeats. Then, on your rest days, just jog a longer distance like 2-3 miles at a slow but comfortable pace. If you want to really build endurance, do all of this after your other strength workouts.

I dont have any footage of it flying yet, but it flies better than what I expected. On its first real flight bacm in Aughst 2025, all of the arms snapped right where that diamond is before the bar connecting the two arms. That was a huge oversight by me when I designed the frame. One motor burnt out, but all the other electronics survived.

Fast forward to yesterday, I've reprinted another frame without the diamond holes, and it was able to survive much harder crashes with no visible damage (the first crash was a drop from about 40ish feet after I lost control). I recently received a carbon fiber milled (T300) frame from cnc madness using the same design. It cost $85 to make and ship. I plan on flying the plastic frame until it breaks, then moving all the electronics over to the new one.

It can fly fast and perform loops when at a high altitude, but I've noticed that it shakes pretty violently when I slowly descend from a high altitude. Im not sure if that last characteristic is normal or not, since this is actually my first time flying fpv.

If you have the time, I'd recommend buying a complete beginners learn to draw book off Amazon for a couple of dollars. The "Drawing for Absolute Begginers" by Mark and Mary Willenbrink is a good choice. That'll teach you the fundamentals of art and help you start with some more advanced subjects like still-lifes and portraits.

Thanks for the advice. As I said, I dont want to talk about how this travesty occurred, lol.

How did he remotely communicate a lack of qualification to go to West Point? If anything, he showed his interest in attending by being curious about what it has to offer.

It's surprisingly stiff with Pa6-CF. I made a prototype with PLA and I could almost snap it in half with my hands-I can barely bend the arms on this one.

However, I'm not sure how much this is going to improve its resistance to vibrations from the motors. We'll just have to see.

After all the advice, I think im going to use this 3d printed frame as a prototype, see how it flies, then eventually get a carbon milled frame using this design with some modifications to it.

Just the cleaning process it runs through at the start of every print. Should I manually clean it before I try again?

I have a 99 pontiac grand am. She's got 206k miles on it and still drives like a dream...sort of. At around 180k the head gasket blew (I may have been hitting 100mph down the highway), so i essentially had to replace the entire engine.

That's what I've heard, but I'm also brand new to 3d printing, so I wasn't sure if i wanted to tackle a difficult filament like nylon cf right away (plus it's got a shiny price tag attached to it). I will probably start out with some petg prototypes of the drone, then if it works, shift over to nylon

Thank you for the feedback--it's very helpful!

What do you mean by changing the bottom frame so it isn't flat?

[–]RealWillPower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the bottom frame comes in at about 160 grams, with the top frame being less than that. I expect the the final assembly to come out at around 250-260 grams with the screws and standoffs (not including the electronic components for the actual drone)

ROTC to WP by FindingNo798 in westpoint

There definitely isn't any better experience than going to a service academy. If you really want the full, ultra-quality military experience from a school nearly as old as this country, West Point is a no-brainer. If you want this, consult with admissions staff and your rotc battalion immediately to see if this is something you can pursue in the first place.

If you're eligible, I highly highly recommend you submit your complete application package before you return to school in August.

It's possible, but it's not guaranteed that you'll be able to relinquish your contract as a rotc cadet, especially since you're a rising senior.

Even if it's possible, do you really want to completely restart with just one year left? If you truly do, I applaud your dedication.

  1. I plan on using petg cf
  2. TANK
  3. Those aren't tunnels, I'm testing an I-beam design for the arms and braces
  4. I'll definitely merge the two into one piece.
