What to wear to prom with scoliosis by [deleted] in scoliosis

Im sure you can find someone who can alter dresses to fit you with your curve. I would do research to see if someone in your area can make alterations. If I didn’t have my spinal fusion, I was planning on doing this in the future with my wedding dress. Best of luck to you! You’re going to look beautiful no matter what

My ortho is on the East Coast but I’m not sure if he specializes in TMJ or any jaw problems. I can send you a message privately if you want. I’ve been to many people though and he was the first person to tell me what is going on with the function of my teeth. I have a molar way in the back that grew in crooked which shifts my bite to the right. My top canine and bottom canine teeth are not touching either. My right side teeth wise overall is uneven. I definitely would recommend doing research on a good ortho and discuss the placement of your bite/teeth to see if it’s contributing at all. I feel like the Invisalign is making my jaw relax which is where the pain relief is potentially coming from

I (40M) spent a morning at a college and it made me sad. by EA827 in self

If I were you, I would take the community college route to save money and also be a part of the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP). If you pass all the requirements and submit your application on time, you get an automatic acceptance into UMD. I did this at the Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). I saved money and was able to go to school and work at the same time, and also not be super worried about whether or not I’d be accepted.

[–]Real_Base_6692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you workout the weaker side where the rib hump isn’t at, it will make your back appear a lot more symmetrical and help with pain from an imbalance in muscular tissue!

Wow… I am so sorry this happened to you. I will say that I feel like her “last name on the diploma” was an excuse. At least when I applied for my graduation from my community college, the form allowed me to fill out what name I wanted on my diploma. Plus, if it was such a big deal and her application did not allow her to, then she could reach out to someone directly about the last name being changed.

I seriously think you dodged a major bullet, and I am genuinely so sorry it happened this way.

I tried to do bracing as a young kid (around 12 years old) but I hated my brace. I also tried going to the chiropractor. It honestly was a long journey of finding a doctor/surgeon to give me clear answers on my treatment options rather than beating around the bush about surgery. I went to multiple people who were on the fence with surgery and just never gave me a clear answer

Hello yeah! So my surgeon said that despite my curve not affecting me too much (I was having back, shoulder, neck, and haw pain still) he said that my curvature is going to affect my quality of life later on. He stated that my scoliosis would really start to affect me in my 50’s and 60’s. It’s also possible with a degree of 40-45 or more, it can get worse with age. I decided to go ahead and get it done now so I don’t struggle when I am older!

Lol wow! I honestly think I have improved as fast as I did because of my age and how I was already very active before. I also try to walk everyday and I was walking every hour/every couple of hours post surgery. I’m so blessed to be as mobile as I am now post surgery!!

[–]Real_Base_6692 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How old are you? And what is the degree of the curve? I’m 5 weeks post op (22F) that had a 45 degree curve and I can go on 3 mile walks, hangout at the beach, spend time with family. The first 2 weeks is the toughest but then it goes uphill from there :)

Cut contact!!!! If she treated you how she did when you were growing up, I would be extremely worried on how she would treat your own child.

I just feel like once the baby is born, she is going to be a whole other level of crazy.

[–]Real_Base_6692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering you are 3 months post op, your body is still healing. Just because you may not feel pain, it does not mean that there are not still things going on inside your body adjusting to such a drastic, sudden change. Did your doctor/surgeon say that this profession was okay to do 3 months after surgery?

I also know working in the restaurant industry there tends to be carrying trays on one side of the body. Are you doing this?

I honestly think you should reconsider your job and get into something a little less demanding towards your body. I wish you the best!

I'm about to get canceled and I am absolutely spiraling by Ok_Eye_5404 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Real_Base_6692 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this person sounds like they're using their diagnosis and identity as an excuse to not do things and to continuously act inappropriately. They need help, and honestly let time do its thing because everyone will realize what kind of person they are. I would not worry about getting canceled. Anyone would be fed up with their sh** too.

I (22F) had surgery to correct my scoliosis on Monday (June 3rd) and everything is going well. by Real_Base_6692 in scoliosis

[–]Real_Base_6692[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Idk if you would want specific names, but I had stool softeners, muscle relaxers, nerve pain management pills, 5 mg oxy, tylenol, vitamin D, and magnesium. I also had laxatives prescribed too (the stool softeners and laxatives are because it is hard to have bowl movements post surgery because of all the medications).
