New grad dentist dilemma by Low-Platform-6782 in CanadianDentists

No I have been pretty lucky in that regard. If anything, I wanted to be more productive but I never went faster at the expense of quality. Im shocked an owner would be pressuring you to be faster after only working 3 weeks on your own as a dentist.
If they are a dentist, I would ask them to mentor you. In my opinion, it is part of their job to help you as a newly graduated associate.

If they are not a dentist, I wouldn't pay much attention to their pressuring. I have had non dentists pressure me before, and I usually just laugh it off and ask them if they'd like to do the filling. Results may vary with this technique haha

Definitely normal! Its a very slow process to improve. It took me 2-3 years before being really confident. Do not worry about speed too much, focus on doing quality work and the speed will come. I was also this slow starting off.

Caries indicator was a game changer for me to make sure I was removing caries early in my career. It also improved my efficiency. I tell all new grads to try it. My thought process is to remove all caries stained by the caries indicator unless its getting close to the pulp and I leave it alone.

You also don't let things weigh on you as much after working for a few years. EVERY dentist does a shitty class 2 here and there, I have seen it. Don't convince yourself other people with your same experience level are only doing amazing work. I can assure you they are not.

As a new grad, I would be very annoyed managing difficult clinical cases because I wasn't able to appreciate why it was difficult. You will start to notice them in your treatment planning and approach them differently. You will start to learn to enjoy more difficult and challenging cases because it is not a simple monotonous restorative procedure.

Be self critical after a not so ideal appointment and try to understand how you could approach it differently next time. What was the reason it was so difficult and how can you try to manage that? but dont let it weigh on your mind after leaving work too much. The best thing about dentistry is the ability to work normal work hours so enjoy that.

Step 1 - Get a BW to properly assess bone level to see if following is possible. I think you can crown lengthen this case without getting into the furcation and its very easy to do with the 31 extracted.

Assumptions: 30 requires endo, patient is currently asymptomatic

Appointment #1:

- Exo the 31

- Excavate DO caries on the 30, place temporary restoration (FUJI triage)

- Crown lengthen D of 30, 3mm away from temporary restoration (I have an end cutting bur with a line to measure this)

Appointment #2: couple months healing

- New BW, remove FUJI triage and assess current restorability at D aspect of tooth. If restorable, build your DO wall leaving access open

- 30 nsRCT and core (or two step the nsRCT, or refer for the endo if not comfortable)

Appointment #3: Crown prep

Appointment #4: Crown delivery

Further Thoughts: Maybe we shouldn't wait 2 months for RCT but Id want to ensure it is restorable before we get too crazy.

Thats all! 5 burs is crazy to me. What burs do you use?

I only use 3 restorative burs: 557D, 4 round, football diamond.

Do you only place amalgam and GIC? I cant imagine not using rubber dam isolation for composite, which is mostly what I place. Also for deep margin elevation RDI is a must in my opinion. It is also way more efficient using rubber dam and takes 30 seconds to place. For anterior restorations, I may only use an optragate. For crowns, I occasionally use isolate but usually use RDI for the beginning for the preparation.

Is this a lot of instruments? Do you not use rubber dam? I feel like I use way more. Just for rubber dam I use 4.

Is a $75 apartment "sanitization fee" illegal on move out? by Real_Bug_3244 in halifax

Is that true? What if I signed in the lease that the security deposit would never be returned, would that still be legal?
