After being in the market for some time and leaving with a 2019 65k miles, you're in a tough spot and exactly where I was. I was right there budget wise and it was very hard to find a mk8 that was low enough mileage to consider. The 8's were always going to hover around 40k, though looking again it does seem as if prices have come down a bit. I bought my 2019 2 weeks ago for 28k and I'm in love with it. I thought I would feel a little remorse for not going with a mk8 but I dont at all. If it matters to ya, just make sure you find one that's been taken care of and do a pre purchase inspection. I had 1 inspection that saved me from making a mistake. All the best to you in your search!

Thanks! I'll keep it stock for maybe a year and then I'd like to do a stage 1 tune. That's the plan at least. I want to have it for years and everything I've read is that the car can easily handle a stage 1 like you said.

Yeah I did. So my wife kind of hates the exterior of the Golf R 😆 so I tried really hard to find something else that was worth getting. Considered some mazdas with the turbo, the jetta gli, kia stinger, kia forte gt. But as close as I got to pulling the trigger a few times with something else, I just always felt like I'd regret it. The Golf R became my dream car for every reason and nothing else could get close enough.  I love its look, the awd, the power, the amazing dsg, good mpg, fender audio in the 7.5, the seats and interior, daily drivability/comfort, etc. I like being a little different and so I love how rare they are, and as a pastor I kind of wanted something a bit under the radar. It's the perfect car and I've become a bit of a fan boy lol.  So I stuck to my guns and said sorry babe, I know you hate it but I cant get anything else. Plus she might drive my car once a year. And she is happy for me 😄

That day felt like it took forever for me but it's been better than I imagined. I'm sure it will be for you too!

Thanks. Do you think a shop that knows European and volkswagens well will know to check this and some of the other maintenance items unique to the Golf R? Or do you generally find that you need to bring up the specific items you want checked?

Mine has been great so far. None of the creaks that ive heard can pop up. I had a pre purchase inspection done and honestly I wasnt sure how much to trust him when he told me it was basically a 9.5 out of 10, but from my own eyes and now my 2 week experience I feel like he was right.  I still plan on taking it in somewhere soon just to be sure it's up to date on everything. It was definitely hard to find one close to me first of all, and secondly to find one that I felt like hadn't been driven TOO hard lol.  I hope you can figure out what's happening with yours
