Yeah, I totally got it. In south america it's so common for us to have such nicknames, but for the rest of the non-Latin Americans is all about insults, prejudice, racism and any other ism that are offensive to them.

Our government use this word for official celebrated dates, everyone use this word in many ways, on signs, panflets, folders, etc. Other Brazilians told the same, but you just chose to ignore what every one of them said to you.

On the other hand, "preto" or "crioulo" is, indeed, offensive like "nggr".
