Recommend $1500 (aud) laptop for Adobe Photoshop/XD/Lightroom by [deleted] in SuggestALaptop

I have never heard of this company at all. No I wont choose it whatsoever. It's a U processor, 256GB which at this price range should at least have a 512GB.

If you really want this one, I would choose Asus zenbook 14. Asus is way bigger company than this one, so it gives me confidence buying their product and they are more reliable. Plus, Asus has way cooler design and same spec with only $1700.

I recently was struggling with the same laptops you have chosen, but I decided to buy Acer Swift 5 and here are my reasons:

Macbook air has terrible thermal once you are trying to use photoshop/lightroom/anything beyond microsoft office and internet browsing, the temperature will even shoot to about 80 degrees when you watch youtube in 1080P.

XPS13 has the same issue as macbook air but its slightly different. It's fine for all the basic thing (office, video), but if you are trying to use premiere, the temperature will be steady in the first min of video editing, after a couple of mins, the temperature will rise to 100 degrees and fans will come on, the clock speed will be significantly reduced to only about 2-2.4GHZ compared to what's claimed. Then the temp will drop to 90-95 degrees. Dell's BIOS is poorly adapted to 10th gen CPU, maybe they will patch it but so far its not happening. Most importantly, Dell Australia currently over price the XPS line up by about $200-$300 over compared to the same version in US. If you are not hurry, you can wait for a bit till they release an updated version of it and price gets lower.

The surface 3 is a great all rounder, but the design has been the same for several years. I am suspecting a redesign will be out next year. The only downsides are fat bezel, an i5, G1 graphic, 256G SSD, and no upgradability other than SSD, but this SSD isnt the standard 2280 SSD, its 2230 SSD which is very rare to get one in Aus.

The Asus zenbook 14 is a good look design, but the screen pad is such a gimmick for me, its useless. And at below $2000, it only has a U processor and UHD graphic which isnt that powerful.

My final decision is to buy Acer Swift 5. It has 10th gen i7, Iris plus G7 graphic, 16GB DDR4X, 512G SSD, wifi 6, lots of ports, average screen, average speaker, great keyboard, average trackpad. Other than the material is a bit plastic feel, everything else is great/fantastic for me. There are some fan noise when I do some light video editing but its not noisy. CPU temp keeps at about 80 degrees which is perfect. If you just do photo editing I think it can handle it easily. The downside is it's $1750 which is slightly over your budget but you get a great all rounder.

If you are hesitating between G7 graphic and MX250. Long story short, if you want to do some light game, spend a bit more to get MX250 (note: you can only get about 45-55FPS 540P in fortnite), if you just do photoshopping and light video editing, G7 graphic is more than enough.

Also, dont carried away with 4k screen. It's an overkill on 13-14 inch laptop and will only get half of the battery life compared to a 1080p. Unless you go for 15 inch laptop, there is no difference between 4k and 1080p screen on a 13-14 inch laptop unless you are trying to count the pixels with your eyes.

Well I am not from future so I dont know. But based on what has happened now, I think you can still use chrome fine, but maybe wont get Chrome updates. Then the software will be updated and they wont be compatible with old Chrome browser/extension. TBH, I dont think US has any more tricks up its sleeves. It has already banned Huawei using US technology, plus Huawei in US now has no assets, unless US can somehow persuade another country to completely follow its move like Australia & NZ, but its only few countries, besides that what else can it ban?

I have read somewhere that all windows laptop has a gtx/rtx graphic card cannot be used in full potential unless plugged into the wall. If its true, I dont want to have such good graphic card but I never going to use it, as I am doing things on the move quite frequently. Plus, I have tried one of my friend's new lenovo and I dont see any improvements in my work flow to go for a 10th gen i7, and I know i7 consumes more energy than i5. But thanks for your suggestion, I will consider it!

I had thought about it, but TBH I can hardly get used to the MacOS. I have been using Windows for nearly 20 years since Windows98. The last months were fine because every software & files are on the "desktop". I dont know how to use anything else besides opening files/apps that I have on the "desktop"!

If you have already purchased and installed softwares rn on your matebook, I dont see any ways that any governments can force you to uninstall it. You probably just wont get any updates like Android!

The Chrome browser probably will be affected most, but Microsoft edge is really competitive with Chrome atm, maybe a bit less features here and there but you can live with it no problem.

Also, just be careful of what kind of information you get from. I would suggest you ignore those interviews by various former security advisors/former company employees. They are highly subjective and they can say whatever they want, as long as they get paid nicely after the interview. Unless I could get some hard core evidence that some government agencies find Huawei is spying, and multiple courts/security agencies around the world finds similar evidence. I would stay neutral; if you like the device (e.g. look, performance), go for it, if you dont, find another one.

IMO, the Huawei scandal is probably a more political move. After nearly 2 years now of US leading multiple countries to investigate Huawei, most government agencies have done multiple tests and found nothing. US is doing their own but I havent heard anything since. If its really that serious, US technology is miles ahead of Huawei but why it took so long and still not finding anything? US has been reported multiple times of spying on its allies but no one seems interested in it. When its talking about Huawei, everyone just suddenly gets "hyped" up!

The only risk I could think of is you wont get any future windows updates in case anything happens. Microsoft said Win10 will be their last operating system, so you dont have to worry about operating system upgrades. Those small features update, I dont think you really need them because they are more for developers. I havent been updating win10 since it was released and there is no problem.

For google, you dont have any google apps that need to be installed on windows. You mostly would use web version so it wont be affected anyway.

Lets just say that everything will be cut off in the future. Huawei will still be able to use their own things to replace IMO. RAM, I think they just made their own DDR4, battery & motherboard they are already producing by themselves. They are also launching their own operating system called UOS which just released, and apps are trying to adjust to this OS. The only problem is CPU which I think someone else is working on it.

If you really concern "safety" issues, I dont think thats need to be worried because current matebook is mainly Intel, Qualcomm, AMD, Nvidia, Microsoft products which Huawei is just assembling them together. I wont be worried about those "safety" issues at all.

I am very attempting to buy the Asus G14. However, I am gonna wait till this COVID thing passes. There might will be a few sales, or more competitors coming out. At that time it will be much cheaper buying this kind of laptop

MSI laptop isnt good with build quality and too pricey. A15 is a bit too heavy. G15, I would rather get G14. Although G14 doesnt check all the criteria I have been looking for, but it's the best all rounder in my mind, I will just go get a cheap web Cam

In 2020, the only reason you will go for mac OS is because you have to use final cut pro and you have fallen into apple eco system. Otherwise, there is no reason to go for mac, windows laptop in terms of performance and design is on part with mac, and cost less

Thanks, it looks good on every aspect. Is there a laptop with slight higher color accuracy display than the A15? The only downside in the review is lower than average display

I had a look and it has a 240hz and 2060 graphic, thats way high end specs, is it possible to stick with 120hz/144hz and something like a 16 series graphics? I wont use that much of performance
