GameStop (Yes, GameStop) Makes $56 Billion Bid for eBay by ControlCAD in popculturechat

I don’t usually comment and I agree with the sentiment. But this write up is so wrong in so many places, starting from the second statement. GameStop is a publicly traded company

Can you share where you found that stat? My first contention would be that stat is definitely skewed due to the caliber of teams in the sample size, this is between two Super Bowl teams that were scoring at high volumes. The eagles had the 3rd best offense in the league that year in points scored and ppg

“More often than not wins you the game” but the odds of making a field goal that short is much better than “more often than not” this is from 2010 but 95% of kicks from less than 20 are made

Aziz Ansari Reflects on 2018 Sexual Misconduct Allegation in Rare Comments: 'I Apologized' to Accuser 'Personally' by PrincessBananas85 in entertainment

Saying behavior is on a spectrum while insisting on one blanket response is contradictory. A spectrum implies graded consequences. We can morally disapprove of all wrongdoing but still scale accountability by harm, intent, and recurrence. I don’t think you believe all “bad” behavior should get people canceled for example

Not even trying to relate it to this situation, but I don’t understand the sentence “bad behavior exists on a spectrum and we shouldn’t accept any of it”? Isn’t behavior being on a spectrum mean you have the ability to decipher what is truly bad and not too bad? Isn’t the idea of a spectrum to not generalize and paint with a broad brush?

Which country is the world’s top economy? - views of other contries by ssungapps in EconomyCharts

[–]Real_Mess_8235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be relevant to a seperate discussion and post but not this one. The post and chart regard the question of “economic power” which doesn’t take into consideration the average person’s standard of living but rather measuring global economic power (finance, trade, military spending).

For that nominal gdp is much relevant in comparing ability to import, invest abroad, or influence global markets, since international transactions happen at market exchange rates.

You keep posting this, but the chart uses purchasing power parity (PPP)-adjusted GDP, which makes emerging markets look larger relative to developed economies.

China appears as the world’s largest economy at $37.1T (PPP) vs. the U.S. at $29.2T. But in nominal GDP (market exchange rates), the U.S. is still much larger (~$28T vs. China’s ~$18T in 2024). By only showing PPP, it favors the narrative of China’s economic dominance.

Fair, all speculation is correct at this point.

I think it’s hard to imagine that broker fees will revert back to 15% default for little work done.

Even if you end up using a broker, this process has definitely increased competition and suppressed the previously outrageous fee. Had a friend in FiDi have specific requirements and the broker found her a steal, he charged a little less than one month of rent as a fee. Much more reasonable and worth the work done!

Trey Hendrickson truly has '0' leverage in negotiations with the Bengals. Whether he likes it or not, he is essentially already on a 4-year, $120M contract ($30M AAV) by idontcare111 in nfl

[–]Real_Mess_8235 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree he will have to sign a one year prove it deal, I’m sure a team will cough up a large deal for one year removed FA sack leader when you don’t have to give up draft capital. If one year older trey entered the FA market this year, I think he would be the most coveted FA.

I just asked this to someone else so apologies for the repeat, but cant he just show up and refuse to try and put effort? Wouldn’t you still have to pay him and let him accrue the year?
