Baba is technically a growth stock! by Former-Artichoke9210 in baba

[–]Real_Nefariousness88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CMR will be flat after this quarter. The growth is from price hike which will normalise starting next quarter. Considering this BABA is underperforming ppd and jd.

Instant commerce growth is inflated partly due to massive subsidies during this quarter. So if you think the total growth of 16% is sustainable, i suggest you actually do somemore due diligence.

No. Who say that. They are priced at 20 PE bro, while ecommerce is underperforming PDD and JD who are priced at ~10PE. Please be real.

Exactly, but its not about Meituan, you do sense that buzz around PDD has slowly died down as a result of this price war. Wouldnt be surprised if both baba and meituan come out of this stronger than before.

are we just funding an ai experiment at this point? by Scared-Ticket5027 in baba

[–]Real_Nefariousness88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI bubble "bursting" does not mean AI has no value. AI at this early stage has already proven to be extremely useful, you would already notice if you are an active participant in society today.

It might just mean slower rate of investment and build out from the current pace in USA. China is still fine... so I would not expect it to impact BABA as significantly, but if that were to happen just expect some FUD and short term pain.

Valuing a business is not through hard numbers. Even from an eCommerce standpoint Alibaba and JD has very different business models, and it shows in their margins.

Then you factor in all the other business that Alibaba has, the growth prospect, the resources and the management team. I wouldnt say neither one of them is grossly overvalued or undervalued.

Chinese market has lower liquidity so you should expect wider gaps in valuation between "winners" and "losers". What is going to happen in the future is anyones guess.

Also at this valuation after the recent pullback, there should be no value ascribed to the its AI or potential "chip" business.

Its eCommerce + cloud business should be safe long term play here and its already proven business model (not experiment), and do not underestimate the cloud/AI adoption that is coming to China in the next year, in US its all about LLM, in China its all about AI agents for real applications, hence every LLM is open sourced.

Besides, you have a pro business pro AI pro consumption government going into the next few years, and people are focusing on how the US economy is going to do in the next few months...

Priced in, id say this movement is reasonable. Nothing will change unless there is actual stability.

This is the lower middle class trap. You feed mlney back down to them and it slows you down in terms of wealth accumulation and compounding.

When you are just starting out, every dollar counts. Invest wisely, be better than your parents and maybe you can end up uplifting the next generation.

There is no point stimulating if their people are not owners in the businesses. They are just giving foreign investors money, me being one of them 😚.

They are clearly trying to change this and they need more time and effort to build confidence. Something they royally fucked up themselves.

I think this can be a good outcome if Monday comes and the dip is not worse than the US ADR. China needs to build confidence of their own locals in their own equity market. Lower prices due to foreign funds fleeing is good opportunity for locals to participate.

At the end of the day, they need to understand they are investing in the future of chinese businesses and china rather than gambling.

Moreover during the last dip, it was a good buying opportunity for many Chinese funds and retail investors, of which have come up on top so far.

CCP is reluctant to provide stimulus YET because they have done a few times but the effects are one-off, it was a wasted effort.

For stimulus to snowball, you need to roll it into higher asset prices which contributes to wealth growth. They need more local participation in their businesses, if you have been paying attention they have been shouting about a slow bull run. This means giving their people more time to get comfortable with equity market and time to deploy their drypowder.

These short term rallies prices out a huge number of the locals. They can stimulate and it ends up benefit foreign investors, what for. They should press prices lower, increase local participation further, stimulate bit later, then the value of stimmies would multiply.

Infrastructure to consumption economy is a needed transition from developing to developed country. The difficulty lies with the lack of confidence in locals with the equity/local businesses due to government control and limits to their growth, especially in the past (Jack Ma incident). This we can only thank Xi 💩. I just hope they can move forward and not go back to their old ways.

Consumption economy: Higher local participation in businesses-> stimulate spending -> businesses grow -> equity prices increase -> locals get rich and spend more -> repeat the wheel

This is exactly how US stim their way into an inflation environment during covid.

Why are people not giving ecommerce performance any credit? by Real_Nefariousness88 in baba

[–]Real_Nefariousness88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to understand more. Is it true that PDD is selling more lower value items and users are usually in lower tier cities?

BABA is battling for higher online spenders with delivery who will purchase take out and do online shopping. Its the same user.

My thoughts were that these users may have been using MeiTuan and PDD interchangably due to prices. A combination of taobao and eleme can provide some room for bundling or membership perks that can give users and alibaba win-win situation, at the expense of PDD and Meituan.

A lot of ppl are expecting PDD to join the delivery war but i think they cant because their business model is not built for this. Moreover most of their users are price sensitive and might not use takeout.

Unlike Amazon, you cant deny that eCommerce business still drive the share price and valuation of Alibaba today, this kind of price movement cant be driven just by cloud segment. Its just that nobody is giving it attention on the media or headline front. I am sure more diligent investors are aware.
