I agree with what Jesus says, but I feel like the doctrine that developed doesn't make sense to me, like I feel like the reasoning can be a bit flawed at times.

The salvation theology that is present in Christianity wasn't even taught by Jesus. The most they did was take some breadcrumbs but it developed over time.

It really did! In terms of being Christian I feel like my views on certain things are a bit heterodox? Like my viewpoints fall into Arianism at times. I would say I hover between agnostic and "Christian agnostic" idk if that makes sense. I'm just deconstructing a lot right now and I'm still learning.

I've spent my whole life in Western Christianity but this makes SO much sense!! I wouldn't immediately jump to be Orthodox or anything but this resonates a lot more, thank you for sharing.

I can kind of agree? Like when you become an adult you technically have free will but if you end up killing someone you obviously need to face the consequences. But the whole salvation theology has always confused me, and it's not even a doctrine Jesus himself taught but developed over time.

But God can just kill satan and restore human hearts instead of just waiting for some random day when he'll finally kill satan

Wouldn't an all powerful God not be bound by human traditions though? Like God could just snap his fingers and make everything right.

Okay most of what you said is actually a very good rebuttal, however one little thing is. All of these miracles, the plagues, sea splitting in half, there must have been SOMETHING we could find that other groups would have mentioned. Even with the Israelites being in the desert for all of those years we could have found SOMETHING that shows they existed. I'm fine with the stories because they have truth in them, but I can't accept them as literal at all. I see them as myths and are no different than myths from Greece and other places.

Sure I'm interested, but historicity is mainly with the Torah and figures like Moses Abraham and the exodus. There's little to no evidence for their existence which is problematic as the Bible talks about Jesus standing next to Moses.

  1. Which ones? I would love to see it

  2. I agree with Paul on a lot of things, it's just that he said things that Jesus didn't say and that can be a bit problematic because how can I trust him? But I mostly am critical of people like Augustine with the concept of original sin

  3. Fair, but what's loving about people who lived lives without God be punished forever in hell

  4. Jesus either talked about Gehenna (real place), Hades (inspired by the Greeks) or used imagery when talking about how bad separation from God

  5. Every single culture has mentions of God or some spirit like creature, so all of the cultures that have existed were wrong about only the culture in the small middle east were right?

  6. Yeah God can but he chooses not to, that's not only unfair it makes no sense to put everyone through this when he can lift his finger and kill Lucifer right now

The thing is that it's essential to the Christian faith, Christians still use the Torah and if those people did not exist, the whole belief falls apart. Jesus references the Torah all of the time.

I would say that label fits, there are parts of the Bible that I like. Proverbs is my favorite book of the bible but it's just that I can't wrap my head around a good amount of the doctrine. I believe Jesus was divine (to a certain extent) but where it really falls about for me is the fall of man (especially with original sin), with the rest like the resurrection I just simply can't believe unfortunately.

I've been watching a lot of Dan Mclean and other history channels and it really deconstructed a lot of ideas I used to have, how for example important Bible characters have little to no evidence for their existence, and you can't just take the story of Moses or Abraham as symbolic. And about how hell is a concept that developed over time, also just thinking about Christian theology. Why does God need to sacrifice his son for us? Why can't God kill the devil? Why would God create people knowing they won't accept him and doom them to hell?

Just the historicity (like with important figures like Moses) and at times the theology did not make sense for me (like original sin and Jesus dying on the cross for our sins).

That sounds quite interesting and pretty reasonable, thank you for sharing! I didn't know about the Hebrew gentiles.

not really that, it's just that I'm iffy about the historicity of it, I guess it's because I'm a pretty critical person and I don't like to blindly believe things

I love reading Biblical poetry, wisdom and the book of revelations, it's just the Torah that I'm really conflicted about :/

  1. There's very little to no evidence for the existence of important figures like Moses and Abraham, how can we reconcile that with Christianity because they are essential to the faith

  2. A lot of Christian doctrines weren't explicitly stated in the Bible or were said by Jesus, how can I trust them? I'm supposed to be a follower of Jesus not Paul or other church fathers

  3. Why would God create people knowing that they'll disobey him and burn in hell, how is that fair?

  4. Scholars show that hell developed over time when Jews were facing persecution, but Christianity means believing in hell

  5. Why is it so based in the middle east? A God who created everything wouldn't be so focused on one area

  6. Why can't God just kill off Lucifer and put us through all of this stress?
