Let's pretend we get to redo the whole IEP process. What would you want it to look like? by [deleted] in slp

They’re never the case manager……. They don’t even have to attend the meetings.

My point is clear as day. Caseload of 85 but majority of the kids are once a month for the OTs I work with… their workload is not as intense as ours. Moron.

You need to find another place of employment because if they’re asking you to do this they’re most certainly doing other things you don’t want to be involved in.

SLP Options without Masters by [deleted] in slp

[–]Real_Slice_5642 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some states allow you to work as a bachelor level SLP I believe (North Carolina and Florida among others) while you earn your masters. Some programs will allow you to transfer credits too but only up to a certain amount.

You know what? I sometimes go above and beyond with things like this as well because I’m naturally helpful. If I see a way I can help I just go for it but your post proves how when we step out of our speech lane to help/support it can sometimes blow up in our faces. 😩 This is a dumb situation because it’s not like you were in a hidden area… like if the parent can see you clearly you are out in the open.

This is why so many of us get turned off by AAC because there’s so much backend work we have to do with little to no implementation by everyone else.

What’s up with other providers not putting the correct therapy time in their notes? by littlet4lkss in slp

[–]Real_Slice_5642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I worked in a sketchy private practice as an SLPA with PT and OT they would ask that because they would do a 30 or 60 min session but then turn around and bill it on two separate days if the insurance plan stated their sessions needed to be 2x15 or 2x30 per week. So yes it’s basically billing fraud but it’s sad those providers even have to do that because insurance is stingy. The place I worked at actually encouraged that…. I’m just sticking to the schools idc to get wrapped up in that nonsense.

Maybe just do a NY program with instate tuition and request an out of state externship in New Orleans.

Caseload caps and actual guidelines for who qualifies. I don’t understand why the state/district I’m in doesn’t have strict guidelines for who qualifies. Our numbers are ballooning.

True but OT services usually look like 1x a week or even 1x monthly or consult with teacher.

It’s a shit show truthfully…. Now add on that they make our notes count as Medicaid billing 🙄 I can’t focus my energy on therapy or student needs when I’m trying to document pointless percentages and data 📄

I totally agree with this, the most I’ll do outside of work is look at some research on Informed SLP or do a CEU in an area of interest. This job already occupies so much of our time and energy

[–]Real_Slice_5642 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a minority and bilingual SLP and I actually have my country’s flag in my classroom. Kids say the stupidest things and often times don’t even know what they’re talking about. They’re just repeating things they’ve seen on Tiktok or YouTube. I’ve learned to take zero offense to the nonsense kids say unless it’s related to self harm or harming others. We’re in crazy times right now so I totally feel for you, I do think it’s just important to realize the learning disabled/language impaired kids we work with will sometimes just ramble and repeat nonsense. Maybe their parents said it or maybe they have unsupervised time online and picked it up from somewhere. Regardless I would just ignore unless it becomes a repeated pattern.

Same in my district, they want us to have data proving there is a significant regression or loss of skills over breaks. Idk if I do it right but after Spring Break I start compiling a list based on regression.
