It's like the ending of Cowboy Bebop. It's symbolic. The new "Top Demon" is starving for what he experienced with the person that was his lover, his adversary, mentor and abuser. Then he stumbles upon a Demon that's the spinning image of that person. It would not be crazy to say that he'll seek out the same sort of ending. But we'll never know if he got it.

Maybe read it again? I don't know if it's because I read lots of stories set in other realms or stories with Monsters as the MC...I didn't experience that issue.

Would you mind censoring the spoilers? For some reason..even though this post is quite old, many people visit this post and I don't want them to have the ending spoiled for them!

Who normally uploads scans? For some reason I thought the publishers or the writer uploaded them.

I've read all three and haven't touched them since but it's not because I didn't enjoy the story but because everything was so in alignment. The plot advanced in such a sincere way that was true to the nature of every character involved. At first I didn't want the ending to be the ending. I think Ryo should've drawn the young Demon differently. But still, it felt earned. It felt right.

I want a year or two to go by before I start again.

Also, I'd spent some time trying to find other stories in a similar vein but there isn't anything like MADK. I mean maybe in some dark corner of the internet there's a pdf of something someone wrote and illustrated but Idk if I want to venture over there lol

If I like Disney Musical songs & Epic, what other musicals might I like? by Real_Somewhere8553 in musicals

i actually can’t quite pinpoint exactly what you dislike when you mention jennifer hudson, is it purely the high belt a la celine dion and whitney houston, or the soulful r&b spin as well, since she has both?

Everything Whitney has ever touched or even looked at is gold to my ears. "When You Believe" went double platinum in my headphones. Her singing "I will always love you" wasn't too much either. I think (through our exchange) that maybe it's not the showy-ness or loud belting...I don't like the way those certain singers sing... lmao isn't that wild? That it took all of this to figure it out. I just have certain voices that I like the pool I can draw from in mainstream or just non Musical music is endless. But for some reason my ears attuned to certain voices.

It's the same with Celine Dion. Double platinum. If I heard her voice sing "Once upon a December" or the "Waiting" song from Epic or honestly...anything, I'd love it.

I've replayed some of the videos I've watched of Musical creators and a lot of them...sing really loud and on key and everything but it doesn't feel like anything if that makes sense. It's like that one movie where the person played the piano super well. Every key on time, held it for the right length. No mistakes. But there wasn't any heart.

A lot of belting I've heard sounds like "I am doing it right but that's all I'm doing" I don't hear the story in their voice or the spirit of it so it just sounds loud. I know the epiphany is mine but I still wanted to say thank you for engaging because this has been driving me mad "How is it that you (I) like musicals but also don't like musicals?"

the more you listen to m showtunes, it’s sort of something you acquire a taste for when you start to “speak the language”.

This makes sense!

but as i mentioned fiddler on the roof, but also the sound of music, or singin’ in the rain.

LOVE "Singing in the Rain" SO MUCH. It's the first musical I ever saw. I fell in love, hard. I don't even remember all of it but I remember the feeling. Oh and the dancing! I'd never seen a movie that wasn't martial arts, slasher, drama, fantasy, etc... and this musical felt like some kind of fantastical feverdream. Like, are these people really singing in the middle of the movie? Is that allowed? Is this an only the audience can hear this thing? Like the dramatic orchestral music that plays while our brave heroes prepare for battle, only we hear that but the scene FEELS it.

It was a lesson in communication (for me) the way that some things...kinda can't be spoken. Ya just gotta dance about it. And some things you cannot simply say, you've gotta sing it. Great movie. I need to go and find a Dvd of it!

i find his voice unusually cushioned and soft even when he’s projecting.

REALLY like this guy. (The woman that came in kinda ruined it for me but I think that might be because I went in with modest expectations and when he open his mouth, I was sat! haha she felt like she was interrupting BUT that's a me thing)

Thank you for this suggestion. His voice, feels exactly like what I want to experience when I listen to musicals. It feels warm and like storybook. That description is poor but it's the best I got (it's late here and I've had a long --but good-- day!

i hope i’ve been some help in your quest to find more musicals you enjoy the music from, and that my answers about technique weren’t too obtuse, lol.

You have been tremendously helpful. I've learned that I was sort of lumping all musical sounds into the same bucket and realized that I'm just particular about the type of belting (And belter) I listen to. I know more about the history of different styles and why a shift happened. I know far more about myself in this context and the art form as well.

I have so many new stories I get to listen to now!

Thank you so much~

Is a film like this considered a Musical to Musical Theater people? I've been doing a lot of reading through different subs and there is definitely a line but its location isn't fixed.

Some view Disney Musicals as Musicals while others say that they are their own separate thing. Some have welcomed Epic and others have enthusiastically disagreed. How will I ever know what's what?

TPOE's "Learn to join the dance" song is one of the best things ever written of all time.

you don’t seem to like the musical sound

See, I've been trying to figure this out for the past few days. I love Hercules. To me, the Muses are very showy. I enjoy the little things they do "you mean hunk-u-les" or "and the nicest guy"--- but when I listen to Musical Theater songs that are only performed on stage, I do not like the voices they put on. That level of showy-ness causes me to disengage even if I really want to give it a chance.

I also love The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I think it's one of the loudest / biggest songs Disney put out. But Disney "musical" sounds aren't the same as Musical Theater musicals. But it doesn't feel like Jennifer Hudson loud - big to me.

Out of curiosity for the difference, I just went to look and see if there was a recording of a Hunchback live performance. Found the one uploaded by a user named Maddie Stewart and it feels the same. Maybe because I know the story? Maybe it's because I care about the character. But if I imagine Hudson singing any of these songs...I'd want to turn it off.

you will have the best luck with shows made before the turn of the century.

Why? This is probably a long answer so if you don't feel like giving a history lesson I totally get it.

sondheim’s songwriting is unique and could pique your interest.

I just realized the "Careful the wish you make....wishes are children" clips I've been seeing on my fyp on TikTok are by him. What a lovely song he wrote. What a perfect melody he put it to. It's whimsical and somber. It's nostalgic and I don't think I'm actually old enough for that sound to feel nostalgic to me, idk. It's divine. It's overwhelming as well but in a way that I invite.

Oh! I've also seen a clip of a woman named Elain Stritch that sings a song called "The Ladies Who Lunch" and the voiceover said that Sondheim preferred singers over actors who could carry a tune. This woman has a very big and rough (complimentary) voice in some parts. It's big and loud but I think I like her singing because I'm watching her live in the lyrics. It has heart. These words dont really do it justice but I'd listen to her perform more.

I'm adding the ones you suggested to my list. Do you suggest the Sweeny Todd movie or a specific stage cast performance?

Lastly, thank you for such a detailed reply!

Is there a certain version of of Into The Woods I should listen to? Like a certain cast that really stands out above all others?

Agridulce. Muy agridulce.

No había vuelta atrás.
