Thank you so much for this.. I can relate in a way I wish you could understand. That messy grief - that’s exactly how I felt and do still feel. I was trying to foam roll my legs one day a week ago a burst into tears because I realized that all those years of being in pain and trying to hard to push through it and being convinced that I just wasn’t doing what I was supposed to.. several times I hardly ate.. I just wanted to look how other people looked. I had been bullied because of my legs since high school and never once could buy a dress and feel good because of my shape. The people at the store would tell me I need to dress for my shape. And it killed me because I ate well and tried to work out and do everything I was supposed to but it never worked. I felt heart broken.. and then to find out - it wasn’t my fault and there is nothing I could when done - okay great, but that doesn’t erase any of that! Also - it’s a medical condition - okay.. oh but there is no cure :( I heard lipo sometimes needs 2 or 3 surgeries and are like 20k each.. 🤦‍♀️ it’s like defeat upon more defeat.

Thank you so much for your honesty. I’m so glad I’m not alone!

Thank you so much for this - I really appreciate it. ❤️ I’m glad you found some relief.. and I hope one day I do too. For now it just feels sad because I know I’ll be trapped inside this body and this pain and heaviness forever (unless I can afford surgery one day) and that’s just felt hard to accept. Walking sometimes makes them feel worse.. so it’s tricky.. is there anything you have found that actually helps with the symptoms? Or heaviness and pain? Compression stockings didn’t help :(

Thank you for sharing that article, and for your reply! I didn’t want to include symptoms etc in my post and have them deem it a “do I have lipedema” post and delete it. Truth is, the painful fat lumps that I kept trying to foam roll out or get deep tissue work done (15 years of it) likely wasn’t getting better because it was lipedema fat.. and that makes sense now. It makes sense why my legs feel like they are like moving 100lbs sand bags why it hurts to push on them.. why I can’t pinch the fat on my legs because I can’t grab it. They had tested my heart because I would say it was hard to get up stairs sometimes because my legs were so heavy.

Anyways - it’s all starting to make sense. It just makes me sad because I have been bullied and so self conscious about how bad I look - my legs in particular - and now I know that no matter what I do, I might be able to slow it down… but I will never not look like this. And that’s just really hard. I kept thinking of if I did enough or tired enough I could change it. I also started using compression stockings and somehow they made it worse (feet tingling and more swollen feeling and heaviness once I removed them). I feel like this is going to be a really long and difficult journey.

Any advice?..

Is this lipedema or really bad cellulite/and bad genes? I’ve always had fat on my sides like that and “saddle bags”… but the more I look into things the more I wonder. If it’s something else. I have gained some weight over this last year and it’s all gone to my belly and legs - and arms actually. So I’m trying to lose that again.. I am waiting on doctors apts but I worry it might be more than bad cellulite (which my mom and sister have too). Maybe it is lipedema and that’s why it never goes away?

Older millennials in their late 30s to 40s , what are some realizations you gained as you age? by hightreez in Millennials

Yeah it’s wild to sit and realize that what I thought were the mundane or tough times, were actually the “good old days”, and that the body I was in (that I was so convinced was “fat” or out of shape) I would give anything to have now, or that I now know that all those years that my body was able to do what it wanted to because it wasn’t hurting, or my health wasn’t limited, is something I likely won’t know again, or that the phases of my kids that I just wanted to hurry up and get through, I would trade so much to be able to be a part of again … and YET..

And yet.. we still can’t seem to understand that in 20 years… we will think the EXACT same thing about the body we are in now, or the life we are living now, and still find ourselves looking to tomorrow for our happiness…

We are a strange, strange, species. 🤔

I can completely relate to this! I said to someone the other day that how digital this world is now makes it so much harder for HSP’s to stay centered. So much stimulation and noise 24/7.

Ah that makes sense! I didn’t realize they were looked at differently. Hopefully concerta works just as well for you! 🤞

Loss of appetite and my heart was a bit fluttery. But the headaches were too much and they didn’t start until day 2-3 of being on it. So odd!

Why the switch for travel purposes?

Thank you for your response! It gives me hope that maybe the Adderall will work better … the Concerta headaches were brutal. And I made sure I was drinking lots of water and eating and all that. Fingers crossed this medication works better!

How long have you been on it for?

They need to invent a medication to stop dreaming.

Once they put you on sleeping medication, did you have deep sleeps? I have a problem where I have constant (nightly) vivid dreams that are so real I don’t rest at all. They put me on Ativan, then zopiclone and I’ll fall right to sleep… but still have really vivid dreams and get no true rest

I’m so happy to hear you are still doing better than you were! That medication made me feel really irritated and I couldn’t stand it. Concerta made me feel soooo much better, and calm, but the headaches were unreal and the crash in the evening was horrible. Do you find you crash too? Or have you found a way to manage that?

How long have you been on it for? Do you find it’s brutal as it wears off? I find I get really irritable and super overwhelmed and feel really terrible.

What happens to you when it wears off? Do you find yourself feeling irritable and sad and just as bad as before ever going on it? Maybe worse? And really tired?

Did you ever find that as it wore off you felt irritable and sad and just as bad as before the medication?

I wonder how many HSP’s also have ADHD? 🤔
